5 lessons I learnt from Amazon's leaders about Networking
"How can you create a repeatable legacy?"
This was one of the most powerful thoughts I was left with at the end of an inspiring networking session with our APJ leaders, but the reason I share this is to highlight what made it really work- and that was the intentionally small size of our cohort with a 1 on 1 breakout format facilitating meaningful #divedeep engagements, prep material on the leaders we were about to meet and even on 'how to network'.
Here are the key messages from the session that got me thinking, and coud help you too!
1/ Identify what sparks joy for you to stay motivated and ensure continued success.
2/ Build a relationship with leaders whose leadership style speaks to you, identify whose advocacy you have and look for shadowing opportunities for deeper learning.
3/ Formalise your intent and program-manage your growth with your manager. Be curious about what your skills are and then amplify what you are good and close gaps.
4/ Always take on more work! Work backwards from your organization's goals and try to create solutions that can become a "repeatable legacy" across your blast radius.
5/ Learn how to scale through others in projects - you will need to lead and influence without authority, coach and have the ability to bring talent together for a common goal.
Grateful to our leaders for investing time in us and leaving us inspired!
