9 YEARS OF INTERNATIONAL CONSULTING KNOWLEDGEABLE | EXPERIENCED | EFFICIENT
Our engineers, Gchobani Mfundisi, Samkelo Sifunda, Nasheel Dayalal, Nsika Masondo, and Rylin Naidoo, recently attended the SANCOLD/ICOLD tailings event, a two-day gathering focused on the design and monitoring of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs). The event offered a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of slope stability and learn from industry experts.
On the first day, discussions centered around the materials used in TSFs, with a particular focus on soil properties and how they impact stability. This knowledge is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of these structures.
The second day explored advanced methods for analyzing slopes and managing risks. Techniques like Limit Equilibrium Methods (LEM) and deformation modeling were highlighted for their role in assessing stability and designing monitoring systems. These systems are essential for identifying early warning signs of potential issues, enhancing safety, and minimizing environmental risks.
Beyond technical insights, the event also encouraged meaningful discussions on industry standards and best practices. It showcased how experienced professionals can mentor and inspire younger engineers to approach TSF design with a focus on safety, sustainability, and responsibility.
This enriching experience reinforced the importance of continuous learning and collaboration in the field. The knowledge gained by our team will strengthen their commitment to creating safer and more sustainable TSFs for the future.
