Learning from and Living with Mistakes
Chris Commander
Consulting Engineer and Project Manager in the Mid-stream Oil and Gas Industry
In my career I have had some mistakes. Some minor and a couple major. As an engineer you are taught that mistakes are what get people hurt, or worse. I have spent most of my life dwelling on my mistakes. Thinking of the failures that have occurred have haunted me. However it has occurred to me in recent times that mistakes are a part of my life, but do not define who I am. I can only acknowledge them, and learn from them. This is much easier said then done, but it is a practice I work on daily now. We are all bound to make mistakes as none of us are perfect. But it is how we grow and then live with these mistakes that truly define who we are, not the action of the mistake itself.
So today I try to learn and live with my mistakes. Growing everyday.

8 年Great post Chris. Failure and mistakes are an integral part of life. If we are willing to learn from them, mistakes will shape our lives for the better.

8 年We are expected to perform to perfection. Doctors are expected to "kill" some number of patients because this teaches them humility, increases knowledge, and self reflection on their profession. How many of us look at mistakes as failures. And how many of our customers look at making a mistake as a personal fault not to be tolerated? Bless the ones who have learned to believe mistakes and failures are the stones that make the foundation stronger and allow growth. Good message Chris.
