As French edition is still not available (a big miss BTW!!), I could not wait any longer to read about Leonardo's work and life.
It is not my habit to talk about my readings on LinkedIn, but this time the book is so inspiring and so well written by Walter Isaacson that I HAVE TO SHARE with you some of key points.
For us being involved in Creativity and Innovation I love what is said about those fields so well mastered by Leonardo: "Innovation is a team sport. Creativity is a collaborative endeavor".
And I am a big fan of the following learning points from Leonardo highlighted by Isaacson:
- Be curious, relentlessly curious
- Seek knowledge for its own sake
- Retain a childlike sense of wonder
- Observe
- Start with the details
- See things unseen
- Go down the rabbit holes: (this one needs further details) "he filled the opening pages of one of his notebooks with 169 attempts to square a circle. In eight pages of his Codex Leicester, he recorded 730 findings about the flow of water..."
- Get distracted
- Respect facts
- Procrastinate
- Let the perfect be the enemy
- Think visually
- Avoid silos
- Let your reach exceed your grasp: there are some problems we will never solve. Learn why.
- Indulge fantasy
- Create for yourself, not just for patrons
- Collaborate
- Make lists
- Take notes on paper
- Be open to mystery. Not everything needs sharp lines.
599 pages definitely worth reading. And if you miss time right now, start by reading Walter Isaacson's article:

Be curious, retain your childlike sense of wonder and keep creating and innovating for the best of humans and our planet.
