Pivoting Your Manufacturing Business: takeaways from our recent webinar with Giancarlo Talarico of QTG.

In our recent webinar “Transforming Successfully Your Core Business Strategy in Manufacturing”, Giancarlo Talarico, President of QTG:

Giancarlo decided to pivot QTG away from their specialization in commodity products (such as steel tubing) and towards opportunities in contract manufacturing and value-added fabrication as he witnessed a changing manufacturing market.?

He shares the following tips for companies looking to perform similar pivots in today’s landscape:?

  • Analyze your current positioning: Perform SWOT analyses and figure out where the best profit margins and satisfying customer interactions lie. Figure out what customers will pay you for and identify their needs.
  • Define your value proposition: Brainstorm what makes you valuable and unique as a company. Clarify your team's values (such as teamwork, communication, or learning) and ensure you maintain these upon pivoting.
  • Build a team for transformation: Build a team that will best support an innovative culture upon your company’s pivot. Hire, train and promote as necessary to create this team.
  • Define and improve a transformation plan: Create a detailed timeline, budget and plan that brings your company where you want to be.
  • Develop strategic partnership: Find investors, financial partners, local partners, and governments ready to help you succeed with investment, support and guidance.
  • Prepare for unforeseen issues: Timelines for training, sales cycles and growth might vary. It’s important to create an internal culture of communication to brace your team for events and delays out of your control.
