As part of our efforts to mark and celebrate National Indigenous History Month in Canada and National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, we recognize the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada.

Learning from the experiences of others: Meet our First Nations, Inuit and Métis advisors

We are fortunate to collaborate with advisors who provide advice and guidance regarding the Partnership’s work with First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Recently, we had the opportunity to speak to Lea Bill, First Nations Advisor, Lily Amagoalik, Inuit Advisor, and Susie Hopper, Métis Advisor, about the health and cancer care priorities that are important for them and their communities as well as their experiences in their advisor roles.

World Indigenous Cancer Conference 2024: Insights and reflections?

Talia Pfefferle, Director of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Cancer Strategy, shares her experience representing the Partnership at this global event focused on global collaboration, identifying cancer-related research priorities and opportunities, fostering partnerships within the Indigenous cancer research community, and sharing knowledge and information about Indigenous people living with cancer with an aim to reduce disparities.

Peoples-specific, self-determined priorities and indicators

The Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control describes three First Nations-, Inuit- and Métis-specific, self-determined priorities based on extensive engagement with First Nations, Inuit and Métis Elders, governments and advisors, Knowledge Keepers, families, cancer survivors, community leaders and national Indigenous organizations. These priorities represent areas where efforts and investments can be made to help drive needed changes in cancer care, outcomes and experience for all First Nations, Inuit and Métis.?
