My cherished Auntie passed away late Tuesday night, peacefully, holding her youngest son’s hand. She was an incredible role model.
She was a light in the world—mischievous, kind, selfless, and endlessly loving. She always showed up for people: a call, a thoughtful gift, or a spontaneous adventure.
She had a wicked sense of humour—stitching my uncle’s undies together before a sales trip, sending telegrams that left strangers in stitches. Everyday life with her was effortlessly entertaining.
She was a devoted carer. She looked after her mum, adored her husband and boys, and welcomed others into her family. She had a quiet way of bringing people together, always making them feel appreciated.
She kept her eldest son Dave’s memory alive with such grace, weaving him into conversations naturally and lovingly.
She loved the simple things—Devonshire tea, beach walks, gardening, and camping. She was endlessly curious, a great reader, and fascinated by the world around her.
She was incredibly competent—respected at work, skilled in quilting, sewing, and floral arrangements, and always creating for others. Whether crocheting poppies for Remembrance Day or ensuring her husband felt empowered as his cognition reduced, she gave without hesitation.
Her generosity was boundless—always donating, always thinking of others. She noticed small things, like overheated op shop volunteers, and made sure they had ice creams delivered.
Her kindness was effortless.
My new mantra: WWSD—What Would Sue Do? Lead with grace, appreciation, love, and humour.
I feel so grateful for our time together.
Here’s to you, my Aunty. You are so loved, cherished, and appreciated.
Laughter really is the best medicine.??
