Learning from a distance
This time of year still excites me
Like most organisations we try hard to let people know about our learning programmes and the benefits that it brings for career development and network building for anyone working in the pharmaceutical industry and it's hard to know what really works. We use LinkedIn, Google, Facebook and Twitter adverts as well as regular emails to our alumni from Manchester University. Some of my tutors encourage their colleagues to sign up and some write about the programmes in their blogs and other articles. And I think that all of it helps.
Right now I am reviewing applications from people who are keen to start their learning with us this October and once again I find it rewarding to know that the things which I think are important and special matter for my students as well.
Offering our learning programmes as a proper distance learning MSc means that students anywhere in the world can access our learning. We will send you a printed copy of the programme so that you can work through at your own pace even if you don't have access to the internet. But we also provide you with access to an electronic version of the programme so that if you have access to a phone, tablet or computer then you can log in and learn that way too.
We do know that distance learning can be lonely, so your tutors are pleased to hear from you with your questions, comments or anecdotes about how your learning has helped your regular practice. And we also offer a three day summer school in Manchester where you can meet your fellow students as well as the tutors for the modules that you are taking. It's a good way to learn about the modules that you are not taking as well.
At the moment I have applications from America, Australia, Malta, Egypt, Germany and the UK. All of these applicants are scientists practising at a high level in the industry who are ready to extend their learning and take their careers to the next step. I am looking forward to getting to know them and to supporting their learning over the next five years.
Wherever you live, I believe that our learning support can help you to advance your knowledge and your career. Why not read more on our website, or get in touch with me directly if you have any questions?
For now I wish all of my new students the very best of luck for their hard work as they begin their studies. We will do our best to make sure that you enjoy it!

8 年Totally agree Matthew Shaw - great article. I'm currently studying my 2nd year of my 3rd MSc distance learning! There is so much for us to learn out there! We must arrange to meet up soon as it's been way too long X
