Learning and Development.
Reading is a basic life skill, it is a cornerstone for a child's success in school and indeed, throughout life. Without the ability to read well, opportunities for personal fulfilment and job success inevitably will be lost. Accordingly, it is incumbent upon the Human Resource department to endeavour that they draft policies and procedures that are not only legible but clear and concise to the point, for easy understanding and comprehension; as a consequence, organisation will experience reduction in time wasting, industrial accidents and better performance management.
Skilled reading is constructive: learning to reason about written material using knowledge from everyday life and from disciplined fields of study; fluent: mastery of basic processes to the point where they are automatic so that attention is freed for the analysis of meaning. Strategically controlling one’s reading in relation to one’s purpose, the nature of the material and whether one is comprehending; a motivated leader ought to be able to sustain attention and learning that written material can be interesting, informative, continuous practices, development, refinement and a lifelong pursuit.
Reading is a means of language acquisition, communication, and of sharing information and ideas. Like all languages, it is a complex interaction between the text and the reader which is shaped by the reader’s prior knowledge, experiences, attitude, and language community which is culturally and socially situated. The reading process requires continuous practice, development, and refinement. An effective reader has come to understand text as something that influences people's ideas. In addition, reading requires creativity and critical analysis. Consumers of literature make ventures with each piece, innately deviating from literal words to create images that make sense to them in the unfamiliar places the texts describe. The narratives of poor readers tend to be shorter and less well developed than those of better readers. Organisations need to continue being sustainable and a going concern therefore, investments in knowledge/talent acquisition and retention through training and development.
