Learning is NOT Development.

What will bridge the gap?

Mussar LIFE Practices.

Mussar means 'discipline', or even 'correction and instruction'. The purpose of Mussar LIFE sessions for those who are engaging in the coursework is 'transformation into all that one can/ought to be' toward a meaningful and purposeful existence. It is intentional change, growth, maturity. These people understand they are CULTURE CREATORS. As Alan Morinis of The Mussar Institute would say, the spirituality of Mussar is "working on the self but not for the sake of the self." [Morinis's method and my own method and curriculum are different, but the core is the same: DISCIPLINES THAT BRING MATURITY NOT JUST FOR THE PERSON, BUT FOR COMMUNAL BENEFIT.]

Now that we've laid that foundation. Let's get back to LEARNING NOT BEING DEVELOPMENT. Statistically, only 20-30% of people will ACTIVELY WORK towards sustained self-improvement. Other research indicates as much as 96% of self-development efforts fail.

Statistics, behaviors, and transformative practices are intriguing, and also the impetus for creating the Mussar LIFE Courses to benefit (remind) not only myself, but to serve as a daily and practical tool for those who desire the work of PERFECTING PAUSES. In fact, we all have a responsibility to Mussar (disciplines) and to LIFE, but we don't really see nor do we understand it as we should.

Many of us aren’t maturing (becoming responsible for our Growth Potential) because we have conflated LEARNING with DEVELOPMENT.

A tree is meant to bloom from kernel to seedling to the tree that finally produces (reproduces). If it never develops, there is a type of inhibiting dysfunction.

Learning is NOT development.? Learning is the GROWTH TOOL. However, the process of maturity/growth requires something from the person/soul that is not inherent within learning alone:? SACRIFICE (of old, dysfunctional patterns).

SACRIFICE of what isn’t serving you (or the marriage, family, or team) WELL is necessary for MATURITY/GROWTH.? And maturity/growth happens within the confines of The Two Kinds of Responsibilities:

1)??? Answerability (For the group’s COMMON GOAL)

2)??? Sincerity (For my personal development & CULPABILITY within and to the GROUP)

Who are you answering to for the communal goal and sincere connections?

This has EVERYTHING TO DO with the buzzword ‘CULTURE’.? And there are also two kinds of cultural experiences:

1)??? NEGLECTED People/Spaces

2)??? NOURISHED People/Spaces

Let's define 'Culture':

Actions and Attitudes that are CONDUCIVE TO GOOD GROWTH through INTENTIONAL CULTIVATION

Culture means THE ACT OF CULTIVATING.

The culture is tied directly to the GROWTH (or neglect) OF THE INDIVIDUALS who make up the community. And a NOURISHED INDIVIDUAL is practicing both Answerability and Sincerity.
