LEARNING BY 'DELIBERATE' MISTAKES
They say you can learn by two ways,
- By doing something and later found the problem with particular action and learn from your mistake.
- Learning from others mistakes, someone else teach you what and how to do it.
Luckily I had a time when I had a third option.
You know it is wrong and it has particular consequences and still you do it and "note down" the "damages". Believe me, it strengthen your action-and-consequence understanding. You can actually get expertise in how much damage will happen.
But wait a minute, who will pay for the damages? So obviously, it is really not a choice that you can say a third option.
Therefore, I say I was "lucky".
This is how it worked for me. I was working in a big organisation, and I had a senior who would always do opposite of what I will recommend [other staff thought he was threatened by me, I think he would not accept anyone]. Many time he asked me rationale behind my recommendation, listen to it, and still do the opposite. Sometime, I did not had a simple rationale but my gut-feeling, so he had a point doing opposite.
And yes, the damages happened, not once or twice ... but a regular feature during my job at that organisation for atleast two years. Do I need to tell how much I learn from it?
Let me know if you were also lucky enough.
