Learning to Debate
This weekend I will be working with the Coolidge Foundation at Thales schools to help young people learn how to debate. Debate represents one of our most important tools for solving the world's current and pressing problems. Debate improves critical thinking, understanding across polarized political chasms, research abilities, word economy, and appreciation for various viewpoints. Matthew Denhart, Rob Hammer and I will collaborate with dozens of middle school and high school students. There is broad social and political consensus that we need to improve education in the United States. There are few academic mechanisms for which we have a better understanding and practice to improve education, than debate.
