Learning to Create
My friend Albert once said that 'Imagination is more important than knowledge.'
When we start a new job, we bombard ourselves with the knowledge that the role requires, we study (well.. some of us study), we put on a smart outfit and we take our determined positive attitude with us.
As the years pass by, we accumulate more knowledge and adapt our knowledge to certain situations that our roles throw at us. We pass some of our knowledge onto the younger generation coming through, we train, help and assist them where we can. But we also watch them make the same mistakes as we did once in order to learn.
It is when we take a crucial step back in our lives that we see. Although not always the obvious in the first place, there are certain things we have picked up along the way which we could never have been taught.
Over the years we have learnt to prioritise. Some of us may have started families, some of us may have re-evaluated it the job we started with is the job we want to take us into retirement with. This is where the start of the term 'work life balance' or 'work flexibility' have started popping up in recruitment ads.
We have also learnt to be creative. Recognise our achievements and in our careers, even boast about them to get noticed above the crowd. We have seen the birth of the social presence. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Snapchat, Messenger... spreading our web to wider audiences.
We have created solutions to challenges out of laziness and budget constraints. When we used to go to a travel agent to book our holidays, we have now got AirBnb and Uber.
The world is our oyster. If there is no imagination, we cannot blossom. We have blossomed in the world and our children will continue that blossom. Something amazing has happened under our very eyes and technology will soon rule the world.
In the future where we sit back in our self-driving cars or spaceships to another distant planet, the origins will seem surreal. My theory is, no one will have an 'office' job anymore. The opportunities are limitless with the types of projects we will work on. All thanks to imagination.
It's a little bit exciting.

8 年Great thoughts Lizan. The future you describe I think is here or imminent. Technology means we no longer have to work in one location and an office job trading your time for money will become less and less part of the future. Embrace it now! thanks for sharing
