The learned art of listening
The learned art of listening will certainly open more doors and crack more smiles than any other negotiating technique you will ever use in your quest for financial freedom. There are some basic rules for listening. 1. Never interrupt. 2. Maintain good eye contact. 3. Put on a listener's face. 4. Acknowledge the speaker. 5. Make notes. 6. Find the hot button. First, it all goes back to the memory of childhood. How many times during your childhood do you remember the statement from your parents or teachers, don't interrupt. It is sometimes very hard not to break in. However, try to listen for an end to a story or an explanation by the person talking. A pause of maybe five to ten seconds is an invitation for you to respond. Wait for that pause. Interruption is not only rude, but slows down the process of negotiating an agreement. Do not forget, that is the whole point of negotiating anyway, to reach an agreement.
