Learn for your future, Care for your community

At ZilLearn, we love what we do because we are on a mission. A mission to integrate the right form of technology into learning so that everyone has equal access to education. This is why we created the ‘Learn and Care’ Campaign - to support the Singaporean community that is in need.?

We shared our mission with the Daughters Of Tomorrow (DOT), one of the 12 partner charities under this campaign, who constantly work and collaborate to find the best and the most equitable ways to better support women in our community.?

If DOT’s advocacy work resonates with you, we invite every ZilLearn Plus subscriber to nominate the Daughters Of Tomorrow and we will then donate S$50 to them.

Here’s a recent story of a DOT beneficiary - a young woman named Natalya who found economic empowerment through DOT’s skilling up opportunities.

NATALYA’S STORY

In 2017, Natalya found herself single, five months pregnant with Amelia, and homeless. While searching for a more permanent home for herself and Amelia, Natalya had to be hospitalized as she was at high risk of pre-eclampsia, a pregnancy complication.?

A year after her search, Natalya and Amelia found a place they could call home - a one-room rental apartment in Punggol.

Through it all, Natalya shared that she felt incredibly lonely and struggled with suicidal thoughts. It was then that a friend of hers encouraged her to reach out to Daughters Of Tomorrow (DOT).

Through this connection, Natalya attended an eight-week long DOT Confidence Curriculum program where she learned to grow her confidence and work-related skills. Upon completion of the program, Natalya connected with Mr Eng Su, co-founder of The Coconut Club, who understood her circumstances.?

Nonetheless, Amelia fell ill and Natalya had to stay home to care for her. Although Mr Eng Su assured her that she had a place at The Coconut Club whenever she was ready to return to work, he soon passed away.?

Thankfully, in October last year, DOT offered Natalya an intern role in their Women’s Support Team. After the internship she chose to stay on in a part-time capacity, where she is still making an impact today.

Natalya believes that it is easy for single mothers to neglect themselves in the pursuit of their child’s well-being. She is grateful for her employer (DOT) who is willing to create a flexible and supportive work arrangement for her and her daughter. Natalya’s story highlights the reality that there are many more women like her in our community, who need our support. This is why the ‘Learn and Care Campaign’ is such an important one.?
