Learn to Unlearn

Learn to Unlearn / Unlearn to Learn / The Whole Circle
I have just started these two new podcasts as part of my new "learning." I am finding balance as I love learning new things and being curious to know what I do not know. At the end of this article, I will share with you these two AMAZING podcasts, so don't go anywhere.
As entrepreneurs or in some cases serial entrepreneurs we must learn to unlearn.
Things Change:
- Technology Changes
- User Experience Changes
- Competition Changes
- Market Changes
- YOU CHANGE
During this journey of creating a big change in our lives, in other’s lives, we must do some deep learning and then we must know how to unlearn it. The more we know the worse it is. Sounds like a paradox, right? Let me explain.
I started my "marketing" journey way back in 2003 when everything was different. I always felt that I am doing things "right" and I followed all the great tricks, tools and knowledge I was taught and had experience with. I always moved fast. Maybe, way too fast for my "environment" at every stage of life. I think it is because I always was a curious person. I never liked the "norms." I did not like the way "things should be" or to be in the middle of the pack. I felt that route was too easy or boring or even frustrating. I was striving to know everything about what I was doing and what the next step should be.
"But at some point I felt like something is trying to spin my story, I did not like it."
Fast forward with my present journey. When I was starting to "build" OUTCERT and it was no longer a “one girl” show who manages everything mostly by herself I felt a bit out of sorts. When I first started to "learn" about a new world of "certifications," "Global Marketing," and “New Technology,” it was absolutely different marketing for me. I was such an organized person who believed in rock-solid strategies.
"OMG, I remember Skyping for hours with Lee (CO-FOUNDER and CTO of OUTCERT) when I told him, I have no idea what I am doing! But I am here to LEARN and then to Unlearn what I know and find the whole circle of it. And only then, opportunities arose and a whole new world was shouting out to me. That was the moment that I felt like I am growing. I was still a bit uncertain but by jumping into the unknown, the magic started to happen!"
Since then, my life has changed. My perspective has changed. It took time to understand it, but now I know. The most amazing thing that has happened to me right now is that I am disassembling what I knew. Now I can assemble it all over again...
As entrepreneurs, we must calculate risks and our moves. We must balance our equations by taking risks but still see the vision out there next to the unknown. We should not plan all in advance and we should strive to be infinite learners. This is so we can learn to unlearn.
It is exciting and it is one of the most important components of entrepreneurship. The first component, in my opinion, is the human component.
"I have promised myself that I will balance my journey with learning and unlearning…"
As I promised, here is a great podcast by Reid Hoffman, called "Masters Of Scale" https://mastersofscale.com/. Masters of Scale is an original podcast hosted by Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn and Investor at Greylock. In each episode, Reid shows how companies grow from zero to a gazillion, testing his theories with legendary leaders.
Thx Lee Marer for the great lessons we keep sharing on our business journey together.
And to balance the journey, I really love to meditate. There is another podcast that was recommended by Reid Hoffman called "Meditative Story" - Meditative Story is a completely new kind of listening experience that blends intimate first-person stories with mindfulness prompts, enveloped in beautiful music composition. Meditative Story is a response to a deep cultural need in our hyper sped up the world to have a moment to recharge. The podcast is a tool-set for wellness combining intimate storytelling, that we’re all hardwired to respond to, plus moments of reflection.
I hope you will find it meaningful.
So, go unlearn what you already learned, and then learn new stuff so you can unlearn again. Opportunities Matters. Be humble and Liberate Yourself.
