Welcome to the third edition of the Learn Salesforce newsletter and thank you to the readers who have subscribed since the launch! I'm excited to continue to bring you this bi-weekly newsletter designed to help you learn Salesforce.
In this issue, we're paying special attention to what many will consider to be the most important certification to achieve - the Salesforce Administrator certification.
?? Tip of the Week
It’s essential to connect the concepts in Trailhead with hands-on learning exercises. While Trailhead projects are great, you need the freedom and challenge of exploring novel business challenges. Spin up a free Developer org, find a task that you’re using a spreadsheet for, and replace it with your new Salesforce app. You can track your finances, job interviews, fitness, virtually anything. This will expose you to challenges and functionality beyond Trailhead projects, enabling you to connect concepts with solutions on the platform.

?? Certification Spotlight: Salesforce Administrator
The Salesforce Administrator certification is regarded as a must-have for all Salesforce professionals.
For anyone looking to enter the world of Salesforce, the Certified Administrator exam is the best way to prove your knowledge of the core Salesforce platform. Once achieved, it will provide employers with the confidence that you understand how to administer, maintain, and extend the Salesforce platform.
It’s also perfect for those ‘accidental admins’ or anyone already working as an existing Salesforce Admin (without certification).
The admin exam is a prerequisite for many other Salesforce exams, so it’s important to understand the basics before progressing to other certifications that are slightly more advanced.
Don't assume that this certification isn't for Developers; all Salesforce Developers should have an understanding of the declarative configuration options in Salesforce and use them when more appropriate than code.
The certification covers seven topics, with Configuration & Setup, Object Manager & Lightning Builder, and Workflow/Process Automation accounting for 56% of the whole exam. With an overall pass mark of 65%, it's a good idea to have a really solid understanding of these three important topics.
This is a BIG exam and covers a huge number of features. Expect to study for a few months and still feel daunted by the prospect of the real exam. From experience, once you've passed this exam, the rest seem much easier in comparison!
My complete Salesforce Administrator Certification Guide & Tips goes into even greater detail about the pros and cons of this exam, plus key concepts to learn.

?? Interview with a Salesforce Instructor
What’s your preferred learning style?
Virtual and in-person both have their benefits but I’d have to say in-person is my preferred method to get a real buzz in the classroom and build a rapport with the trainees.
Can you share an example of a challenging concept you've successfully helped students understand?
Security often has a few topics that challenge the trainees. Organization-Wide-Defaults and the correlation with sharing mechanisms is a lot of functionality to breakdown to helping trainees understand the smaller components to gently build up a bigger picture usually proves a successful approach.
What is your top study or exam tip?
There are 2 that have always stuck with me. Firstly RTFQ: read the full question and identify the keywords that can lead you to the correct answer. Secondly, use a process of elimination. Where the certification question is multiple choice, instead of being unsure of which answer to choose, try to eliminate incorrect answers first and leave yourself the correct one.
What’s your favorite Salesforce certification and why?
Slightly biased here as it was the last certification I enjoyed studying for, but my current favorite is the Platform App Builder. I found this exam took the administration certification to the next level and having experience working with implementation and consultancy in the past, I found this certification had great real-world scenarios to apply my knowledge
What resources would you recommend to others?
Focus on Force is great for practice exam questions. Trailhead and Salesforce Help were excellent for learning topic areas and Salesforce Ben was terrific for overall guidance!

? Test Your Knowledge Answer
The correct answer is B. Collection Variable.
A “Collection Variable” can be used to collect and store data before using it. For example, if you are using a Loop to create multiple records, you should Assign them to a Collection Variable and use a Create Element at the end of the Loop to create all the records together in a single push.
