Learn to Rest…
You might be surprised that anyone could make such an obvious suggestion. After all, we all know we need to rest, don’t we? But research indicates that most people don’t enjoy a good night’s sleep on anything like a regular basis. Most people wake up with the feeling that they’d prefer to stay in bed and enjoy another hour or two of deep, restful sleep. So, what’s missing? Why are we always feeling so tired?
One of the answers leads us back to the problems associated with stress.? We grow so accustomed to the constant bustle of modern life that we don’t realise how tense we are. The stress levels start to feel normal. We lose contact with the deeply healing benefits of rest and relaxation. If we’re not watching TV we’re glued to our smart phones. We never switch off. Even when we’re asleep.
In some parts of the world, areas where the traditions of meditation have been established for thousands of years, there’s a growing concern that we are experiencing an unprecedented explosion in mental illness. Judging from the astonishing number of prescriptions that are being issued today to combat stress, anxiety, depression, burnout and insomnia, we should all be concerned about the state of mental health across the world. We should all be prepared to take note of our own levels of stress and take steps to introduce daily exercises in relaxation that will enable us to recover our physical, mental and emotional energy, our natural balance and resilience. You could start the revolution by adjusting your posture.
