Learn more about an exciting JBS-sponsored trip to Paris!
Paris in the Jazz Age
September 19 - 27, 2020
Co-sponsored by the James Brister Society and the Black Alumni Society.
Dear James Brister Society Members,
I am delighted to announce that the James Brister Society, along with the Black Alumni Society, is sponsoring a 2020 Penn Alumni Travel trip to Paris. This departure, open exclusively to our members until November 15, 2019, will join Penn Professor Herman Beavers on a discovery of how African-American culture shaped Paris in the Jazz Age and beyond on this seven-night trip to the City of Light. With Professor Beavers, we’ll trace the rich history of the city’s African-American community on specially designed walking tours and talks, learn how jazz enchanted the city, and feel the rhythms for ourselves with dinner and a concert at a local club. We’ll also discover luminaries such as Josephine Baker, Langston Hughes, and Eugene Bullard and, along the way, enjoy quintessential Parisian experiences: the cuisine, a Seine cruise, a Louvre tour, and traveling on the Métro. I hope you can join your fellow JBS members in Paris next year!
Sincerely,
Michael Barrett, ENG'89
