Why are forests so important to keep our planet alive?

Forests cover around one-third of all land on Earth and breathe life into our world, but it’s not just the planet that suffers when they are destroyed.

Forests are important for people's lives, homes, and livelihoods and have a crucial role to play in tackling biodiversity and climate crises.?At OCEANR, along with our fantastic non-profit partners, we are committed to the protection of our world's planet and oceans. We recognise that forests are the largest storehouses of carbon after the oceans, as they sequester greenhouse gas from the air and lock it away above and below ground. Thus, it is no surprise that when we cut down or damage our forests, we release huge amounts of carbon emissions that contribute to the climate crisis. Find out below, how we work with a wonderful social enterprise that is committed to bringing back 1 trillion trees back to our planet!

Let's celebrate International Day of Forests

Therefore,?we would like to take some time to highlight the importance of the International Day of Forests, to highlight and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests.?We recognise that the sustainable management of forests and their use of resources are key to combating climate change. The theme for 2023 is "Forests and health." Forests give so much to our health. They purify the water, clean the air, capture carbon to fight climate change, provide food and life-saving medicines, and improve our well-being!

Thus, today we would like to celebrate our partnership with Plant-for-the-Planet. Together, we have realised it’s up to us to safeguard these precious natural resources. This 2023 calls for giving, not just taking, because healthy forests will bring healthy people. Plant-for-the-planet is a global movement to restore forest ecosystems to tackle the climate crisis and biodiversity loss. To do so, they empower young people, restore ecosystems, conduct restoration research, provide free software tools and restoration advice for organizations around the world.

"Planting a tree is easy, bringing back a forest is hard"?Felix Finkbeiner, Founder of Plant-for-the-Planet.

Why the world needs a trillion more trees

OCEANR supports Plant-for-the-Planet's work to protect the world’s three trillion trees and bring back a further one trillion trees. Restoring lost trees is essential to preventing the climate crisis. Trees capture CO2 from the atmosphere and store the carbon in their leaves, stems, and roots, eventually increasing the carbon stored in the soil.

Estimates show that we can restore up to 1 trillion trees without encroaching on agricultural land. Once these trillion trees are fully grown, these new forests could capture between 488 and 1012 billion tons of CO2.?But that’s not all! Restoring forests achieves much more than just tackling the climate crisis. By ensuring that these forests recover, this helps us avoid the loss of plant and animal species that call these forests home, especially when tropical forests alone house over half of all species on the planet.?

A greener tomorrow

Plant-for-the-Planet Academy welcomes young Climate Justice Ambassadors to join their movement. Your mission as a Climate Justice Ambassador is to explain to others the importance of planting trees and helping the future health of our planet, click to sign up here!. We would like to shine a light on Plant for the Planet's recent project. Mexico is the home of 12% of the world's biodiversity. That makes it the 5th most megadiverse country. Nonetheless, it suffers from one of the worlds highest rates of deforestation. Thus, one of Plant-for-the-Planet's campaigns is located on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, where a team of ecologists and restoration workers plants millions of trees every year to restore destroyed forests.10,257,838 Trees have been planted since 2015 in Mexico, thanks to this fantastic project!

If we take care of our trees and forests, they will take care of us!

Trees are the lungs of the earth, we can’t live without them. But if we don’t protect them, they won’t be able to do their job. At OCEANR, we try to limit our carbon footprint in any way that we can. While we take every measure possible to lower our impact, we, like all humans, are still left with a footprint. We offset all of our carbon emissions from product shipments, global operations, and corporate travel through our partnership with Plant-for-the-Planet! If you would like to join us in supporting the wonderful commitment that Plant for the Planet are making to the world, click here, to join, donate, gift, fundraise and help protect the lungs of our beautiful planet!
