If there is anything that my life experiences have taught me, is that when things get tough, grit your teeth and never EVER give up!
At 8 years old I was told that I may never be able to walk properly again after a severe leg injury.....My response to my parents, "But I can still play football right...."
A year later I had managed to rebuild the deteriorated muscles in my leg with cycling up to 12 miles a day, daily weighted leg workouts, agonising stretching routines and against the odds I had mastered being able to walk fully by myself without any form of support. There were lots of tears, SCREAMING, plenty falls, hard hitting down days but I never missed one session of my rehabilitation process.
I then moved on to play football in one of thee biggest stadiums in the Europe (Millennium Stadium Cardiff), represented the UK internationally and performed Freestyle Football on Sky Sports all by the age of 14 years old.
I took part in the New York City Marathon in 2011 raising £5500 for the Archie Foundation (This incredible charity helped support my family when I was ill at birth) and despite tearing my hamstring 8 miles in, still managed to complete the 26.2 mile run in a semi respectable time (4 hours 47 minutes) later to find out I had also broken my foot and fractured my ankle as a result of over compensating for my hamstring failing. Unable to settle for my marathon experience, I laced back up again and ran the 2015 Edinburgh Marathon & 2016 Manchester Marathon raising money for the British Heart Foundation (In memory of an offshore medic I worked with who lost his life due to a heart attack).
The purpose of this post is not to gloat or to seek praise but to reflect on the power of "NOT GIVING UP" when there seems no hope in sight or when pain takes over to know that it is temporary and success is permanent!
Just now times are very challenging for many of us, but please don't loose sight of the good times ahead. Dig deep, stay positive and keep moving forward!

4 年Mike Scotland A really inspiring message, one that resonates with me. I seem prone to arthritis and including the total hip replacement I had in 2013 affects both hip, knees and ankles seen afflicted. Following whip lash injury as a passenger during a car crash in the days before car head rests in 1979 I have arthritis in my neck as well as through injuries I have suffering four compressed vertebra and a collapsed vertebra. Everyday I get up shrug off what others might call pain and prepare breakfast for my wife who suffers from MSD and I ready us for the day. My usual routine Monday to Friday is to cycle 45 minutes before going to the office, two hours cycle ride at the weekend and holidays. Sure I am in what some might call constant pain but. There is always some one in a worst condition
