listening! the best of the skills.
Learn from mistakes!
My situation is not unique; maybe you're facing the same.
When I am in a crowd I tend to hear everything people say, but I need to get better at listening. I've learned that these two skills aren’t the same. When you listen to someone speak, you are engaged with them. You make an effort to understand exactly what they are trying to say. If you’re really good at listening, you will repeat back to them what you heard in your own words to eliminate any miscommunication (this is called "active listening"). But hearing is just the physical attribute of perceiving sounds.
Learning from the mistakes, the very next time someone walks into your office, or your loved one asks you for an opinion, take the time to truly listen. Focus on what they are saying, make sure you really understand what they’re communicating, show interest (put your phone down), and repeat what was said in your own words. Not only will the person who is communicating with you feel appreciated, but you also will gain a better understanding of what that person is trying to tell you. You will grow closer in your relationships. Who knew listening could do all that?!
Lastly, I want to bring a reference from an ancient literature called thirukural –??????????? ??????? ????????????? ?????????? ????????? ???????? ???.( ????? ??? : 411 )
