It’s nothing new that manufacturing is experiencing a labor crunch; nor is it anything new that training is frequently proposed as a solution.?
The question becomes, what kind of training and how is it best implemented to effectively close the talent gap? In this week’s featured Industry Today article, Christopher Pappas, Founder of eLearning Industry, proposes an approach of, “Taking small steps implementing training in a modern, engaging way. Sure, such a transition can be hard to tackle, but if you take one step at a time, you’ll see that all can go smoothly.”?
The steps Pappas recommends are:?
- Use Learning Management Systems (LMS) technologies such to minimize training costs
- Improve onboarding and offer continuous learning
- Employ AI to help workers acquire needed skills in today’s manufacturing environment
- Find more ways to identify and recruit skilled workers in addition to connecting with community colleges
- Reach out to current employee communities for hidden pools of untapped talent “The digitization of the manufacturing industry is nigh. And your workers need to be able to keep up,” Pappas says. “Manufacturing companies have some hard thinking to do. For one, they must re-evaluate and re-design their HR strategies. That way, they’ll increase their chances to recruit, hire, and train new manufacturing employees.”
