Learn To Create Experience Through Design
I don’t know if anyone else did this as a kid but I used to search up “inspirational” or “cool” websites when I had the chance. I was always so intrigued on aesthetically pleasing websites. It even went as far as making decisions for my family’s webpage when I was only twelve. We’re my parents crazy to trust their teen daughter? Yes. Did I know what I was doing? No, but here we are now, eleven years later with more knowledge on landing pages, UX/UI, and design thinking.
Improve Your Landing Page
As a twelve year old I knew that landing pages were important, I didn't know what they were referred to at the time, but I understood that if there was no captivating experience in the first few minutes or even seconds, the user would exit instantly.
To maximize your websites success you need to:
- Understand your land page goals
Ask yourself, who is the user persona? What is it that you want to accomplish through the landing page? Even better, what stage of the conversion funnel would you you want the user to be in or proceed into.
2. Keep it clear and concise
Landing pages should easily navigate the user to take actions you wanted them to take (call-to-action), thats why setting goals is critical. There should be no confusing or nonessential information on the page. It should be as concise as possible and the keywords used on the landing page need to be chosen wisely as it matters the most for SEO.
Introduce UX/UI
The infographic below explains what UX and UI mean, what they're focused on, and what they do. Think of UX as the exterior part of the cake, AKA the frosting, while UI is the cake itself. Man, I love relating things to food.
UX is all about understanding and solving user problems while UI design is all about visually pleasing and interactive creations. They're both different but work together as they're both aware of customers needs and they do that by implementing design thinking.
Design Thinking
Using IBM's approach of design thinking, their goal is to focus on the users needs, challenges, desires, and hope by using empathy as their means. The three principles they focus on are:
- focus on user outcomes: determine how well user needs, challenges, desires, and hopes are met
- diverse empowered teams: the more diverse your teams are, the higher the chance to progress.
- restless reinvention: think of everything as a prototype. Their is always space for improvement.
How it Gets Done
User needs are everlasting and ever-changing. For that reason we have a an infinity sign pictured. Within the infinity sign theres three dots representing three different stages; observe, reflect, and make.
To go through these different stages when in complex situations, in this case it's easier to introduce Hills, Playback, and Sponsor Users which help orient you into the best decisions.
Design thinking takes users to heart and its important to note someone great experience today doesn't mean its the same in a year or two.
To Summarize
The user is most likely to convert when everything on your landing page is accessible. Implementing UX/UI in your life will only change for the greater good. We learn that through the importance of design thinking leads to the outcome of the best projects. My twelve year old self would be so proud.
