Learn, Connect, Grow 3/10/24

Learn - This week Early Childhood students made sock monkeys, hot cross buns, painted eggs, and decorated coffee filter flowers. Junior High is learning about ecological cycles through exploring the science of composting. They are studying American history and preparing for their spring trip to see an aquarium on the Pacific Ocean in Monterey and visit a farm of another Montessori Junior High class in Santa Cruz, California.

Connect - Spring energy invites exciting, new challenges each March among any group of children. Balance can be achieved by freedom within limits: structured activities and consistent boundaries. A small list of agreements provides structure around a well-prepared environment with inviting activities. Montessori boundaries may be clarified with eye level, gentle expression, eye contact, and a firm but kind voice. Challenges and misuse of materials are addressed patiently and with redirection.

Grow - Garden Club met for the first time this week! We brainstormed which plants may be well-suited for our site and withstand the pressures of our fauna. We will host a gardening through art workshop mini-series on March 15 and 29 at Olalla Bay Market for grown-ups with Montessori tenets. This will benefit the Cedar class spring trip to California.

Kindly, Elise
