Leaning in to trust.......

About a year ago I started the professional certificate in executive coaching at Henley Business School Coaching at Henley Business School and I vividly remember how I would prepare a list of my version of ‘good’ open questions ahead of working with clients. Why? Because I wanted to be a great coach, a great coach that asked that magic question which would change the client’s thinking process.
What happened? Well, thanks to the wisdom of the course tutors and from regularly coaching clients over the last year, I learnt instead how to trust the coaching process.?
How did I do this? I’ll be honest it was hard because it required me to let go of trying too hard, to let go of taking responsibility and to let go of my ego. When I let go of all those beliefs and habits, it gave me the space to lean into the coaching process, just like in the image of the trees. The space to lean into believing the client is resourceful, creative and whole.
And when I started to do more of this, I discovered this is where the real magic happens with the client, during the coaching session and not before with my list of questions.
Trust is a big topic and I’ve focused on a specific situation where I learnt to trust. What about you? What has helped or even hindered you to trust?
