Lean into your fear

How many times you’ve passed on an opportunity that could change your life? Job interview you thought was too hard for you. Career change you’re delaying looking for the best moment. Events you could attend to learn more.
But you’re not confident enough that you belong there.
You see me posting on LinkedIn. You subscribed to my newsletter. You think I’m a confident content creator. It’s pretty far from being true.
Each post, I fear it’s not good. I fear it won’t deliver the transformation I want to give you.
I face the same fears as you do. I want you to embrace that feeling. I want you to start seeking it. Fear is the feeling of learning.
You’re not alone
Impostor syndrome. A fancy name for the most common feeling in the world. The fear that you may mess something up while learning. Everybody goes through the same process. Not everybody speaks about it.
A great example is Beyonce. She wasn’t a “stage personality”. She did her gigs anyway and now everybody knows her name.
We’re all in the same boat. We all have our fears. If someone tells you otherwise you can assume they are lying. They don’t want to admit their fear and project fake arrogance to hide their insecurities.

1 年Thank you for the idea of journaling to your future self Dariusz. You had very useful steps to think around my fears!

1 年Your process of journaling towards a future self that has transcended the blocks on the emotional and intellectual capital you are needing to be successful at some currently believed-to-be-unachievable task reminded me a bit of Internal Family Systems therapy. In IFS language, when "the effort has been made to welcome ... and provide the right level of validation and support" to the parts of you that are flooding the system with well-intentioned but unhelpful overrides, "these parts are then often open to creating space for more Self-led behaviour and Self-energy in the system." If the journalling self is writing to the future self about beliefs that take the form ? I must make sure?that {rigid, self-limiting behaviour/state of affairs} always holds true or else {bad thing}. ? If I do {rash/urgent/goal-less action} I will temporarily alleviate {uncomfortable sensation}. ? I cannot do anything because I feel {shame, anxiety, fear etc}. and you enter into a healing circle that loosens the grip of those Managers, Firefighters and Exiles, respectively, then that is one way to do something very similar to the IFS algorithm. https://psychology.org.au/for-members/publications/inpsych/2022/winter-2022/internal-family-systems-therapy
