Lean and Opex Professionals. When was the last time you sharpened your own saw?
People Centred Excellence
We are PCE. A lean and CI training company that specialises in developing your greatest asset. Your teams.
My fellow improvement professionals, this blog is for you. We've made a career out of helping others to achieve great results through applying lean thinking to challenges and problems. We take a pride in helping people develop and grow, breaking paradigms and energising people with new ways to think and act.
?
How often do we encourage people to be life-long learners? Probably quite often. But, I suspect we might be guilty of a bit of hypocrisy here. We say it to others but don't do it ourselves. Maybe we are falling back on the tried and trusted lean tools and techniques that have served us well for many years. Are you trapped in your own goldfish bowl? Same lean tools, same frameworks, same - slightly stale - results. Does this ring any bells?
?
On another point, why do so few of us actually use coaches ourselves? Elite athletes recognise the need for a coach, so why don't many of us? A lot of us say we're coaches, many of us have it in our job titles even. But who's coaching the coach I wonder?
?
They say the best way to learn something new yourself is to tackle a new topic or skill and then try it out as the 'teacher' to others. That might be a good approach, but wouldn't it be even better to have a safe environment for supported practice of these new skills, before doing the high-wire act with no safety net? Going back to the sporting analogy, we should all be stretching out and doing our warm-ups before the match, not during it!
?
Can I suggest a potential countermeasure to the above? People Centred Excellence, the company I co-founded 3 years ago, has just expanded it's Lean training portfolio, with the introduction of our Advanced Lean Coach programme. Aligning to Level 2a of the Cardiff University affiliated Lean Competency System, this three day course provides seasoned lean / opex / CI practitioners with training in both advanced and strategically orientated lean tools and principles. But the actual taught element is only the start...
?
We at PCE are experienced improvement coaches ourselves, who still spend time at 'gemba' helping others, a hands on approach, where theory is put into practice. We coach people at all stages of their lean and opex careers, and we know and practice the Toyota Kata too, so you get coaching in following a scientific way for free.

The LCS is an internationally recognised framework linking to the DNA of Cardiff University's LERC programme back in the day, managed by people who are knowledgeable, experienced and passionate about lean and CI. If you're looking for a way to advance your lean knowledge and receive formal certification that recognises both the knowledge you have, and how you have applied this knowledge in real life circumstances, this is a qualification you must look at.

It's never actually all about the tools - but it's good as a CI professional to be able to use and speak with data, and to have knowledge and experience in frameworks that help teams focus on the challenges that are going to deliver strategic objectives. You add value to your organisation or your clients, if you have confidence to take leaders through a change process using such tools. So, if you want to know about Hoshin Kanri, VSM, Levelled Pull, Theory of Constraints, The Glenday Sieve, building an Obeya room and many other advanced lean topics, and to be guided by an experienced coach in the application of these tools, this course is for you.

We want to run this course - probably from a UK (Midlands or North West) location - this year. When we get 8 people on-board, we will get started. Why not join us?
Stay lean!
