Leaducator 2021: 3D Decision Making

Leaducator 2021: 3D Decision Making

Well, well, well a new year. Indeed, and in deed. I am sincerely wishing us all a great 2021; and the work to make it so.

In the last Leaducator for 2020, I offered up on Integrity... and I noted "Read the card. Reflect upon it. Study it. Munch on it. Digest it. Now, imagine what it would look like in action... in countenance and gate. What would it look like in the classroom, on campus, at work or business, in the community... at home? Deconstruct and construct on it. Get clear and specific. Then execute. The execution is the example. And we need more in our lives, families, schools, businesses, workplaces and communities."

The Leaducator going forward is written for educators, entrepreneurs and emerging leaders who believe leadership by example is vital and that character plays a foundational role in that example. Here, we will consider the art and science of character as leaders in our classrooms, companies and communities... and beyond. But, to start this month, I would like to jump on a daily virtue share that I have been doing; a virtue a day. Yesterday and today were on Decisiveness...

... and Detachment...

... your 2-D glasses, if you will. Still, I missed Daring in the daily sharing... and so for Monday, January 4, 2021... the virtue is Daring.

That got me thinking. Decisiveness, Detachment and Daring. But, I would reverse that order. Starting with a spirit of Daring, and practicing healthy Detachment, we can better execute on Decisiveness. What might these 3-D glasses look like as a leader in the classroom, on campus, in our companies and in our communities? What would the countenance and gate of these three look like in taking on each day, week, month, term and quarter? What would they look like in delivering our message and service? What would they look like with our families, students, colleagues and clients? What would they look like in facing the uncertainty of times ahead.

I am returning to the classroom and to my business tomorrow, after a brief and needed break. I am pondering what Daring, Detachment and Decisiveness might look like in engaging my teaching and work, in letting go of old practices and adopting new... in bringing an ever better Barry to the front lines. What would Daring look like as a spirit to forge my decision making, "unconstrained as the wind"? What would Detachment look like in considering, what I keep, let go and add? What would they look like in deciding on my sharpened work and website (to be soft launched on February 20th birthday, and officially so for March 31)? What are my best criteria for saying Hell Yeah? In so doing, I might consider these brain pickings. As I consider my month and term ahead, with my year long (and just cause based) vision now clarified, I am cognizant that Daring, Detachment and Decisiveness play a fundamental role in the consideration and subsequent action taken.

My thought to you is this. Ponder what Daring, Detachment and Decisiveness might look like in practice for you personally and/or professionally. How might they impact your own best and needed decisions going forward? How might they impact your execution on same? Consider the cards above and imagine their manifestation in your world and life. Again, deconstruct and construct on it. Get clear and palpably specific. Then execute. The execution is the example of leadership. An assured step shows such example. An assured step is grounded in Daring, Detachment and Decisiveness. And we need more in our lives, families, schools, businesses, workplaces and communities. In the face of much uncertainty going forward, we most need to identify that for which we are certain.

In effect..

  • read and reflect on these three virtues; take a deep dive
  • ask how are you manifesting same already
  • consider where you need practice more of these in unison
  • imagine what that would look like in countenance and gate
  • then act upon it

There and again, we find our Integrity.

Honor your learnings of 2020. Dare, detach and decide...

Then execute.

I dare you.

Barry Lewis Green, aka The Unity Guy with Epic Engage

Lead, inspire, educate, and unite. Move forward together, stronger. My work is about bringing campuses, companies and communities together, moving forward stronger. I work with educators, entrepreneurs and emerging leaders to do just that. My work is about character leadership and education and its role in helping individuals and organizations build a better world at school, work, business and community. I deliver on it through speaking, coaching and development in character leadership and education. My expertise is character leadership and education. I advance unity in diversity by moving the needle on leadership and education that is high character and results forging. I speak, teach, coach, facilitate, lead, write, sing, dance, cartoon and create on that. In 1980, Professor Rolf Hattenauer changed my life. A highly respected expert in Human Resource Management, he expected much of us and he believed much in us. He was an educator and leader of high character. He was extraordinary. To this day and beyond, I try my darnedest to honor his spirit with my own work. That is another story. But I hope I did him service here.
