Leading the Way in Urban Agriculture: The Vision of Archisen's Founders, Sven Yeo and Vincent Wei

Archisen, a Singapore-based agritech firm established by Sven Yeo and Vincent Wei is revolutionising the agriculture industry in Singapore by harnessing the power of data. With their backgrounds in biological science and mechanical engineering, the duo dreamt up a high-tech urban farming system aimed at increasing efficiency, quality, and sustainability.

Having spent time on the ground at large-scale traditional farms, Yeo and Wei became acutely aware of the operational inefficiencies faced by many farmers due to a lack of information. With rising urbanisation and a growing global population, they saw the need for better application of technology to farming in order to address the looming food crisis.

In 2015, the duo decided to take matters into their own hands and design and build their own indoor farming system. In a country with high land and labour costs, their knowledge of urban forestry and geotechnical engineering has allowed them to create a more efficient and climate-resilient agriculture model.

Their proprietary operating system, Cropdom, leverages sensors, IoT technology, and data analytics to manage the farm. The system was first tested on a 500-square-foot farm and has since expanded to a 7,000-square-foot facility capable of producing 100 tonnes of vegetables per year.

The impact of Archisen goes beyond solving farmers' problems; it is creating a positive impact on Singapore's food ecosystem by making fresh, flavourful, and nutritious vegetables available to consumers at an affordable price. With the help of government funding and guidance from industry experts, Archisen is leading the charge in modernising agriculture in Singapore and setting a positive example for the rest of the world.
