Leading as a Victor

Too many leaders today lead as a victims. They let their social conditioning and their unhealed wounds impact their ability to lead. They think their title and their position of power makes them a leader. But it doesn't. Impact makes you a leader. Are you able to make a positive impact on your team or not? This is an indicator if you are acting out of a wounded ego or from heart centered courage.

In the Viking times, strength was a vital component of leadership. Strength was often viewed in physical terms superficially. In today's world, we use knowledge instead of physical strength as our weapons, and so many leaders use knowledge for power.

But even in Viking times, strength was emotional. Courage, bravery, and loyalty were all emotional qualities of a good leader in Viking times. Emotional qualities that are still important today. Several studies, as well as anyone who has ever been on a team realizes, that emotional intelligence is the greatest indicator of a leader's performance.

Emotional intelligence requires many things, including taking on the brave emotional work of healing. Too many leaders let their wounds impact their teams in negative ways. If you aren't able to actively listen to others, ask yourself why you are so defensive. Why do you have so many walls up to let other's feelings and thoughts in?

Are you overly reactive to others, why? What caused you to be so sensitive to others? What is triggering you is a good indicator of where you still have work to do to heal yourself. We all need to heal but it is especially important for leaders since we can do the most damage.

What stories are you telling yourself? Are you victimizing yourself with the stories you tell yourself? Or are you building yourself up to be ready for success and victory? Have a strong growth mindset, creating healthy boundaries, and having daily practices are key to help a leader go from a negative impact to a positive one.

What judgments are you making about others, especially about yourself? Most of the time when you judge others it's a reflection of your self-judgement and your insecurity. If you are being too harsh, why?

No one will ever be 100 percent healed or perfect. But as a leader, especially if you have a position of power, it is your sacred duty to work on yourself, heal yourself out of victimhood, and lead like the victorious Viking our society so desperately needs.

If you could use help with self-love, I have a link to my self-love workshop. Dedicating time to working on yourself is a huge way for leaders to heal and change the world for the better. It all starts with you.
