2022 has turned out to be a challenging year, a recession feels all but certain. Despite the times, we’ve stayed focused on the work to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly. Aurora is in a strong capital position and full of talented people who continue to make critical progress toward deploying our first commercial product.?

Operating with integrity and confidence

Last fall, we made our public debut with $1.8B in gross cash at closing. From the get-go, it was important to raise money from investors who believe that a bet on Aurora is a bet on the future. Aurora’s investors have committed to our vision and believe in the value our product will deliver. In a similar vein, many of our partners, including Uber, PACCAR, Volvo, and Toyota, value our integrity and have confidence in our plan to deliver, which is why they’re also investors.??

Rising to the occasion?

We’re focused on attracting people who have the drive and experience to build and deliver the Aurora Driver. In addition to Sterling, Drew, and myself—who have over 40 collective years in making this a reality—we’ve brought on key leaders from various industries who have deep expertise in commercializing global products. Our team’s commitment and dedication to making meaningful progress give me confidence in Aurora’s ability to deliver. Recent highlights include:?

• Our operations team has maintained a 100% on-time delivery record for our customers, while refining our technology and our service.
• Our world-class software and hardware teams continue to develop and validate the Aurora Driver while maturing complex capabilities, paving the way for our product launch.
• Our public policy team has accelerated its work with all levels of government to ensure stakeholders, especially the public, understand how this technology will make our roads safer.

Focusing on impact

Almost 43,000 people died from car crashes in the U.S. last year. This reflects a 16-year high and underscores why we’re building the Aurora Driver with urgency. Autonomous technology, particularly in long-haul trucking, will also help mitigate the worsening truck driver shortage and supply chain instability. Our experience, technical expertise, and progress toward driverless operation continue to earn the trust of some of the largest transportation players, including FedEx, Uber Freight, and Werner.
