Here’s a gem shared by Monte Pedersen about “Changing Direction”.
“Changing Direction” is always a difficult choice for a leader. Today's "Byte" informs us on how to do it.
Multiple times in my leadership career, I reached a point where "doing something else" or "changing direction" seemed impossible. Many of us have felt this way at one time or another.
So when these times happened to me, what did I do??
"I failed to do anything."?
Instead of seeking the change I needed, like so many others I waited for something better to happen, which in retrospect we know never does.
In "Change Your World" (2021), a book co-authored by John Maxwell and Rob Hoskins, they discuss how to? make the world better, correctly assessing how to make change possible:?
"Transformation is possible for anyone willing to learn and live good values, value people, and collaborate with others to create a positive value culture."
What they recognize is that anyone can achieve the change they want in their life, when they understand that it can’t be done alone. You accomplish change with your efforts and the people around you. You give help and get help as you make your way, progressing toward your goal.
Here's the formula for what you need to do:
* Be willing to learn something new,
* Adhere to a strong set of values, beliefs, and behaviors and live them daily,
* Work closely with and value the people around you?
* Collaborate with your manager in creating a personal development plan
* Do the above with others in your reporting line or circle of influence.?
Your ability to execute on the goals you set comes together when you've carefully considered these elements.?
We live in the age of "execution," where everything is about getting results. We only need to decide to be a part of it.?
Yes, it will be different. It is a change you'll likely be unfamiliar with and uncomfortable doing.?
Still, it’s necessary and worth it because you can improve your ability to get things done and lead people more effectively.
Remember this, if you've never looked into or attempted to change, you'll never know if it could have made a difference for you or perhaps your business.
And that's the same as sitting back, choosing to do nothing, and waiting for something to happen.

"Time is what we want most, but what we use worst" - William Penn
We got 99 problems, but time ain’t one.
Time is never the barrier.
We know you’re probably reading this newsie between meetings, after putting the kids to bed, or at 6.30am before heading to the gym (fun fact: most of you consume this newsletter before 8.00am!). You are time-poor; it’s a real problem.
But it wasn’t the actual problem.
How do we know? Because in the hour it took for people to sit down and be interviewed by us, everyone claimed they had no time to start but proved they did have the time.
So what was the problem? Well, it’s hiding in plain sight.
That's why we have so many biases, often respond to ‘how are you’ with ‘fine’, and can miss spotting a gorilla during a basketball game.
Another shortcut? Saying we don’t ‘have enough time’ when what we really mean is ‘it seems too hard’.
Our brains keep us willfully ignorant of the real reasons we avoid new challenges. They are designed to protect us, not help us grow. When something feels big, complex, scary, and uncomfortable, our brains step in to save us from the pain. It’s easier to claim we lack time and return to scrolling Instagram.
That’s why sometimes, we need to outsmart ourselves to make progress.
The first step is the hardest.
The next time you are about to say ‘I don’t have time’, stop. Instead, think about the specific reasons why you're hesitant to take the first step.
Here’s another gem shared by Calm about “How To Find Time When You Have No Time”.
When in doubt, take a break.
Most of us feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to juggle work, socializing, and commitments. Let alone prioritizing our own health and wellbeing.
If you struggle to find time for yourself, welcome to the club.?
Luckily, regular micro-breaks can make a big difference — keeping stress and anxiety in check, and helping us deal with whatever life throws at us.
These can be as simple as:
Keep This In Mind
??Remember: Sometimes, the best way to speed up is to slow down.
??Reflect: What makes you feel relaxed in less than 60 seconds? That’s your new go-to micro-break.
??Reframe: I didn’t hit all of my goals today → I'm respecting my time and energy.
