Leading Starts With One Step

Leading Starts With One Step

As we’ve talked about recently, leaders come in all stripes. We don’t need to be formally appointed or given a title to act like a leader and move the ball forward on team goals or find ways to serve our teammates.

?In my career I’ve heard many people say, “I’m no one special, who am I to step up and lead.” The truth is none of us are all that “special.” We’re all just people trying to live a fulfilling life and have healthy relationships with others. The leaders we admire most understand this and don’t claim the mantle of leadership due to any “specialness” on their part. Those great leaders accepted the challenge of leadership by stepping up as an ordinary person to do extraordinary things.?

A key part of leadership is serving those around us. Often, when we are early in our journey, we can best do this by sharing our knowledge and experience with our teammates. We don’t need to be the greatest of all time before we help someone who may be struggling with a challenge. Offering advice or encouragement as someone who has experienced something similar can be just what a teammate needs to get past their own blocks and achieve success!
