Leading regional heart charity launches its first annual awareness day
As it enters its 30th year serving the community, Wessex Heartbeat is excited to announce a brand new awareness day.
The first Wessex Heartbeat Day will be held every year on February 28th with the aim to raise awareness of heart health, highlight the life-saving projects that it funds and celebrates the people that it supports.
The Southampton based charity has been a much-loved resource in the community since its launch in 1992, and has helped thousands of new-borns, children and adults diagnosed with congenital and cardiovascular diseases through their close relationship with the Wessex Cardiac Centre.
To kickstart the first awareness day, supporters of the charity are encouraged to join Heartbeat’s exclusive 280 Club, an exciting fundraising initiative that asks each member to set a target of £280 for the charity and complete a challenge or fundraiser.
Tina Hawke, Donor Development Manager at Wessex Heartbeat, explains: “An example of this could be, host the best bake sale your office has ever seen, you can challenge yourself by taking part in a marathon or sponsored walk, or you could even take on a skydive – the possibilities are endless.”

Money raised on Wessex Heartbeat Day will go towards funding a number of vital schemes spearheaded by the charity, including Heartbeat House, the 25-bedroom “home from home” for families of cardiac patients using Wessex Cardiac Centre, its crucial research in DNA Repair in patients with stable angina and equipment for 3D modelling software which supports the diagnosis process for children with congenital heart disease.
Tina added: “Most of all, we want everybody to have fun and celebrate what our charity can do with the support of our fantastic community. We have been so thankful for the work we have been able to achieve the last 30-years and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
