Leading with Purpose: The Power of Values and Vision.


As a leader, you have an opportunity to achieve key goals and influence?others to achieve more.

However, it is only possible to achieve that if you have a strong foundation in:

? What you stand for (Your values) and

? Where you want to take your team (Your vision)

When used together, values and vision serve as a navigational tool, aiding in the preservation of a clear understanding of priorities while progressing towards objectives.

The principles that you uphold, both professionally and personally, are your values.

They mirror your life's mission and the?core?of who you are—including?the beliefs you hold, the experiences you have undergone, and the?lessons you’ve learned.

If you have a?clear understanding of your values,?it’s easier for you to:

? Be a good role model for others

? Make ethical decisions

? Pursue excellence


So, what do you value?

? Values aren’t meant to be wall decorations; they’re meant to be?lived.

? When you lead with your values, you?build?trust in your leadership.

? People?know?what they can expect from you?and vice versa.

When Satya Nadella became the?CEO of Microsoft,?he?sent an e-mail to his staff?about?what he values:?Family, curiosity and hunger for knowledge all define me.”

To?clearly?identify your values:

? Take note of the characteristics that you find admirable in other people

? Be mindful of the issues that you are willing to advocate for.

? Recognize?what?makes?you feel uneasy and?what?steer you towards the right direction.

Now, consider ways to apply?and put into action?your personal values.?


Your values?define?who you are, but you also need direction (Vision)

“If you don’t know where you’re going any road will get you there.”

? No matter your?position, you need a?vision—a clear and compelling mental image of a better future to?aim for.

The vision you hold has the power to inspire you, bring your attention to?the?long-term, and push you?to become a better human being.

A good vision is aspirational, realistic and attainable.

Your vision should have?this?key components to make sure it inspires you every day:

? Positivity: Easy to remember and envision. It should?appeal to your mind and?heart.

? Support: Tied to your organization’s transcendent mission.

? Timeframe: Challenging but attainable through manageable steps.
