Leading with Passion for Sustained Change

“A life without excuses is a mindset for greatness.“

Sustainability is more than sustained doing, it’s also about sustained passion. Making an impact that results in social change requires passionate people to continue to inspire others.?

Sustainability at the root is built on sustained energy and commitment to ensuring something maintains momentum over time. As those who are inspired to make an impact do so, they will need to inspire the next leaders to move the cause forward.?

Seeing people with passion be successful at creating social change is very inspirational for a lot of people who don’t have the ability, knowledge, or passion to do so.

When communities, organizations, or partners are no longer committed to the social impact mission the work doesn’t get done. That causes traumatic cycles and harmful systems we currently have to continue existing.

Our generation has the opportunity to make sure that those cycles that have been harmful for people are not perpetuated further. As we individually and communally are doing the work to heal, we’re putting in the time and energy to fix the root issues that prevent people from thriving.

What Inspires You To Lead?

It's a scary thing to think about... now we're in charge of the world. As a content creator and leader, I often think about that as a frightening opportunity.

Who the heck put us in charge and when did that happen?

It's not that we're not capable adults who can make the world a better place. We can all do our part to make that happen.

But making decisions that we know will change things for future generations... that's a lot of pressure.

Creating long-term change going to take both leadership and passion. Lots of leaders with lots of passion bringing along a lot of people to all commit to doing their part.

That's one of the things that we are missing right now. We seriously lack leaders. We seriously lack the trust and commitment that community change requires. We also can't seem to agree on strategies that actually result in desirable social change.

So should we all just stop trying because this social change stuff is too hard?

NO.

No we should not give up. Yes this is hard. No we are not allowed to quit.

We Need To Expect More

Quitting is not the answer. Expecting more from our leaders is the answer.

A good friend April Williams described this beautifully on Clubhouse recently, we need to expect that leaders will make decisions that represent us. That might include knowing how people vote, how they make decisions that affect us, and how they use the feedback we give them. April is a big proponent of giving your local, state, and federal leaders feedback.

April is right, we need to expect more. We also need more leaders.

This can present a conundrum for folks who want to step up to lead, but are not ready to take on this level of commitment.

Expecting more is part of the equation, fostering more leaders is another part of it. The last part of it is all of us. We can all expect more from ourselves and take actions that will help others or help our communities.

Get In The Greatness Mindset

My good friend, Lachelle Adkins, shared a quote she wrote after being inspired by Les Brown.

“A life without excuses is a mindset for greatness.“ - LaChelle Adkins?

No one talks about the greatness mindset but I think it's a good point. We can all find a million excuses not to step out and lead or do our part.

It's when we stop listening to those excuses and act that we can become great. That's how it happens. Sitting in the excuses like "I don't want to lead because I don't want to be held accountable" will get us leaders who don't care if they're held accountable. Just like the ones we have now.

We need people who are leading with passion, commitment, integrity and greatness in mind. People who live life without excuses. We need to stand behind these people free of excuses too, ready to take back the word "great"...again.

Leading with passion is a sustainable strategy for social change. As we see rights degraded, harmful decisions made, policies demolished... we need leaders with passion more than ever before.

We need leaders with 100% passion and 0% excuses. Period.
