Leading the Future: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at GITEX

In our rapidly evolving technology landscape, daily life has transformed dramatically; most activities can now be done online, and lacking the latest apps can leave one at a disadvantage. Those of us who grew up in the '90s very well recall this shift, from the times we memorized phone numbers to relying on smartphones.

GITEX stands as a hallmark event in the tech industry, a vibrant gathering that showcases the latest innovations and trends. One of my fondest memories from this annual tech extravaganza was a chance encounter with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum over a decade ago.

I was at the Microsoft stall, highlighting our pioneering payroll solution designed specifically for the Middle Eastern market.

It was a quiet afternoon when an Emirati gentleman approached me. I introduced myself and launched into my pitch about our payroll solution's seamless integration with financial functions.

I was oblivious to the whirlwind about to unfold right in front of me. Within a minute, a commotion erupted; flashes, cameras, and eager onlookers. To my surprise, the man I was speaking with was none other than His Highness himself, walking the exhibition floor incognito.

There were no special security measures in place, such as cordoned-off areas or large numbers of security guards. His Highness's casual demeanor and genuine interest in the technology were inspiring, i don’t think I will ever be able forget that moment. I regret not recognizing the visionary leader sooner and expressing my gratitude for creating a second home for us expatriates.

Having attended numerous GITEX events, I'm excited for the 44th edition this year, which promises to unveil innovations in AI, cybersecurity, and sustainable technology. Attendees often admit that each event sparks curiosity with at least a couple of groundbreaking ideas.

Last year, we witnessed SPIRE, an autonomous racing car capable of exceeding speeds of 300 km/h.? This year’s central theme is AI and its diverse applications, with discussions focusing on its transformative effects in sectors like healthcare and finance.

I'm particularly looking forward to engaging with AI technologies—perhaps having a chat with a robot or exploring virtual try-ons, a truly game-changing innovation. Imagine everyone wearing perfectly tailored clothes, customized to their body shapes instead of traditional sizes.

I certainly will check out to visit the Nvidia AI suite, eager to discover fintech solutions that can provide clear insights into how AI is as essential as electricity in daily life. I’m also intrigued by the concept of remote driving, just picture lounging at home while driving the kids to school from the comfort of your living room. I'm excited to see what Tesla and other mobility companies will showcase at the event.

GITEX Cyber Valley will have live demonstrations of cyber threats, and hackathons. Hopefully, this tackles the escalating global cybercrime costs, which are projected to hit $10.5 trillion annually by 2025.

I also hope to explore how AI can enhance crowd management, along with augmented reality glasses that could revolutionize our interaction with the world. And let’s not forget about autonomous delivery robots, envision a future where robots stroll alongside us, making robotic companions a reality.

Dubai will undoubtedly experience increased traffic congestion, delays, and crowds during GITEX. However, the event's significance extends far beyond showcasing technology. It serves as a powerful symbol of global cooperation and innovation in the face of rapid technological advancements. GITEX continues to be an epicenter of innovation, and I can’t wait to see what this year's event has in store!
