Leading from inside out - 2

Athletes dedicate themselves, train daily, sweat, run, feel pain, and get injured. But they will also win races, matches, championships, and when they reach their targets they will climb podiums, receive medals, and become famous.

Unlike them, their coaches don't train, don't play, rarely achieve fame, and never receive medals.

They humbly accept a discrete position, behind the scenes, understanding that their value as a leader is in making and seeing others shine.

Let us not confuse, however, being humble with being shy.

A leader knows that leadership naturally produces resistance, even from his own followers, and nobody will resist being shy.

Although it may seem like a contradiction, one of the most beautiful facets of a leader is to combine the humility of knowing that others are more important than himself, with the strength and courage needed to fully accomplish his mission.
