Leading from the front

Leading from the front

This Easter I finally made time to read this book that Sidsel Linds? graciously lent me (You will get it back soon, Sidsel??), and it is a gem!

A quick read, but really up my alley delivered with focused tips and recognizable insights for any leader, formal or not!

My main takeaways (chapter-wise):

  1. Lead From The Front - you need to step up, step forward and act in uncertainty, and go first - even when (or especially when) it is demanding.
  2. Create a Unique Strategy - we all need something to stand up for, and as a leader you need to live, preach and constantly communicate this.
  3. Train Like You Fight - know the drills of two levels down, and be prepared for two levels up - and never stop training and improving.
  4. Assemble a Dream Team - if you are in doubt about someone, you are not in doubt! Deal with the issue swiftly. And create your Personal Advisory Board!
  5. Establish Cohesion - know each other, trust each other, be there for each other!
  6. Trust Your Intuition - You can never have full certainty - it is better to act! "When in doubt, listen to your brain and heart. If they agree, you're ok, if not - listen to your heart!
  7. Love Your Employees - Be there for them, always! And fix the important stuff, big and small!
  8. Be Yourself - Be grounded, know your weak spots, and mitigate them!

I am so impressed with the leadership skills, methods and mindset our military forces have developed! Comforting in these volatile times!

Hereby recommended! But I am also on the lookout for new suggestions for my reading list, just saying....
