#GetOnBoard to end human trafficking

#GetOnBoard to end human trafficking

I'm proud of our ability at Delta to connect people to events all over the world – and this year, our hometown of Atlanta is hosting one of the largest on the planet. While it’s going to be a great few days ahead for the teams competing for the title, we’re taking this opportunity to raise awareness of a crime that often accompanies big events like these: human trafficking.

January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and one of the ways we’re taking action is through a community awareness video about trafficking on board our aircraft – it can be found in the in-flight entertainment system now, as well as on Delta’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

To further show solidarity, we hosted our third annual anti-human trafficking rally during National Human Trafficking Awareness Day at our headquarters. It was empowering hearing from global leaders in this critical fight for justice, as well as seeing so many people in attendance, eager to learn more about what they can be doing and what Delta is doing to help make a difference.

As a values-driven company, we know our only option is to face this challenge head on and devote all of our efforts to end this heinous practice that deprives millions of their freedom each year.

In 2016, we launched our #GetOnBoard campaign to bring our involvement in the fight to the next level, which includes newly enhanced training for Delta people. It also includes our partnership with nonprofit Polaris, which is dedicated to preventing and disrupting human trafficking around the world.

I’m proud of our efforts in helping fund the National Human Trafficking Hotline, operated by Polaris, which is a resource for survivors and communities to use and report suspected cases of trafficking. If you or someone you know needs help, text "HELP" to 233733 or call the hotline directly at 1-888-373-7888.

Delta's fight against modern-day slavery also includes volunteer opportunities, partnering with additional nonprofit organizations, supporting anti-trafficking legislation and customer engagement. You can get involved directly by donating miles to bring survivors home or to safety - and we're matching the first 3 million miles. Thanks to your compassion and generosity, 60 flights have already been provided to get survivors out of danger.

During Delta’s leadership conference, I shared with our team my big thought for the year – to bring humanity back to flying. When I think about this mission, I can't think of anything more humane than fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves.

If you take anything from reading this, take a stand in being vigilant. Don’t turn a blind eye on a situation that seems "off" or abnormal. You never know when you’ll have the opportunity to save someone’s life.

Graham III, M.D. 2:55 PM We Missed our son's Navy SEAL Graduation Dinner- pg#1 Dear Mr. Bastian, Recently, my family had a very important trip to attend our son's Navy SEAL graduation. This trip had been planned months in advance with 5 of us traveling to San Diego including my wife, our 2 children-the brother and sister of the graduating SEAL and my wife's 84 year old mother in a wheelchair. Unfortunately, this very important trip became an incredibly disappointing day due to some inexcusable inefficiencies made by Delta. Frankly, I was flabbergasted at the lack of urgency Delta exhibited and the apparent unwillingness to give those stranded any other travel options. The one bright spot was gate staff for they did all they could to keep us informed. This letter of mine is written with the hope that it makes it far enough up and down the leadership line at Delta that someone in charge will make some crucial changes in how decisions are made when situations like this occur, but until that happens then 'Shame on Delta' for their coarse and unrefined manner of handling this particular scenario; free snacks and $15 food vouchers only go so far to appease the frustration and disappointment. Missed our sons Navy SEAL graduation dinner pg#2 The day unfolded with perfect weather across the southeast on April 13th, 2017, but immediately upon arrival we were faced with a "Delay" notice on the gate's board; 10 additional notices subsequently were posted to my phone and email box over the next 8 hours. The unfortunate series of events resulted in our being stranded in AVL (Asheville, NC) from 11:30 a.m. till 7:30 pm while awaiting first mechanical checks to the plane - Flight # 5322 - then more delays when a second plane couldn't make the trip because the crew from the first plane required replacement for they "felt sick" from the smell of burning wire smell from the first plane. It wasn't hours had passed that someone up the line at Delta finally decided to obtain what the gate staff called a "Rescue Jet" with a fresh crew to take us to Atlanta. I am particularly appalled that this "Rescue Jet" option wasn't considered as the first and immediate step once the delays passed the 2 hour mark, instead too much time passed and our connecting flight was missed not once but twice and we almost missed the last flight out of Atlanta that night for San Diego (which would have caused us to miss the entire graduation ceremony the next morning as well). Missed our son's Navy SEAL graduation dinner pg#3 It is directly because of Delta's failure to compassionately consider the extreme inconveniences it was making their passengers endure that resulted in my wife and I being absent at our son's Navy SEAL Graduation Ceremony dinner, a once in a life time event never to be repeated. It is because of this 'grand faux pa' that propels me to suggest some major changes in Delta's culture or maybe we should call it 'group think'. I have been an orthopedic surgeon for 25 years, never been sued, and I believe it is because I value and provide compassionate care to my patients, competent & relevant training to my staff, and always have a backup plan B, if plan A doesn't go well. Unequivocally, Delta has some very important lessons to learn for it is obvious that at present these lessons have not been adopted effectively into your corporate culture. In surgery it does not matter how many times a "principal of success" is taught to staff, if not implemented correctly or appropriately at the crux of the moment, then it is of no F...ING value, and the process has failed (F-word for unapologetic emphasis)! "Failures" and the "Unexpected" Should Be Planned For...if you are to consider oneself prepared and competent. On April 13th, 2017 in the Asheville, NC airport Delta was caught "Flat Footed" and embarrassingly deficient to handle such a problem as this. If Delta wants to be a "Champion for Excellence" then you must take this opportunity to learn and become better. If I had it my way I would say "Delta START NOW” - from CEO on down - from this moment forward, with all sincerity, adopt these rules if you are to call yourselves compassionate professionals and Champions of Excellence; you must uphold compassionate care and service to the highest standards at every moment, and learn, learn, learn, never stop learning, from your mistakes. Missed our son's Navy SEAL graduation dinner pg #4/4 Unfortunately, on this day, Delta did not rise to the standard I expected an 'Outfit' your size, reputation and gravity of service to maintain, yet Delta is able in the future if these comments are received, not with an attitude of arrogance, but one of humbleness and willingness to say 'Yep, we messed up, but we shall not let another parent ever miss their son's or daughter's military graduation (or other special event), ever again, if we can help it!" On this day Delta could have gotten my wife and I to our son's very important dinner celebrating a once-in-a-life-time event with better planning and a change in the cultural group think. My prayers are that no future parent will have to bear the same. Sincerely, Angus Graham, Brevard, NC, Delta FF # 2121207811 You haven’t received a response yet.

Great message for business travelers both domestic and abroad not to turn a "blind eye" to signs of human trafficking.??
