How do you lead a team honest and at the same time authentically?
Have you ever experienced your boss told you to do one thing or to follow one certain rule and then he goes off and does the exact opposite? For example; your boss tells you to work late and he ends up leaving early. Or your boss calls you in the office to criticize your use of the internet and then later you see him ordering clothes online. It’s giving the wrong impression to your employees when you tell them to do one thing and then turn around and do the exact opposite.
When you’re telling people to do one thing and then turn around and do the other, you’re following the philosophy “Do as I say, not as I do”. When you lead by this philosophy your employees will end up being less excited to go to work and will get demotivated.
It doesn’t matter if you are their boss or their friend, double standards tend to feel like a betrayal for most people and that’s an ambiance nobody should want to have in the workplace. You know you’re not leading correctly when there’s a feeling of unfairness in the workplace.
Leaders should know that they have a certain responsibility to their employees. It’s a part of the job, and the best way to lead your employees is to set a good example. Just remember actions speak louder than words.
Why is it important to give a good example to your employees?
You can do things right and you can do the right things. Well, I say, do both. By doing the right things the right way you are setting a great example for others.
But why is it so important to give a good example to your employees? Well when you inspire the people around you, instead of demotivating them, they tend to want to push themselves until they get the best out of the situation or the task they have been given. When your employees start to push themselves farther than they would usually go, your company gets better results and becomes closer to greatness.
Leading by example will inspire your employees, and will ensure your organization to achieve greatness. Now tell me which leader wouldn’t want to accomplish that?

5 年Titia Niehorster? Each leadership examples have a story behind them. Naturally, examples are like illustrations to be followed in principle but never imitated. Results may not be similar because of the changed situations. What is to be conveyed in examples is the spirit and narrative behind those examples. Nice post. Regards
