Leading Energy Efficiency 12 years of EESL

Now is the time for energy efficiency to shine: EESL will be the key

Estimates by International Energy Agency state that energy efficiency can contribute up to 49% of the energy-related CO2 emission reductions that are needed to limit global temperature increases over the next several decades.[1]Energy efficiency offers a glittering array of advantages– it reduces emissions, provides energy and capital savings and creates employment opportunities. Over the last decade, energy efficiency has become increasingly pivotal, by enhancing energy security and leading the charge in global climate change mitigation. Efficiency improvements made since 2000 have prevented 13% additional energy use in 2019. It has also prevented 12% more greenhouse gas emissions and 20% more fossil fuel imports, including oil imports of over USD 30 billion (United States dollars) in IEA countries.?[2]

It has been estimated that industries have the technical potential to decrease their energy intensity and emissions by up to 26 per cent and 32 per cent providing a striking 8 per cent and 12.4 per cent reduction in total global energy use and CO2 emissions.[3]?The energy demand for the industrial sector has been on an upward trajectory and has almost doubled over the last 15 years, with large expansion in energy- intensive sectors. This demand has to be met in a sustainable manner, in a bid to stem the tide of ecological deterioration. Thus, we need to balance the tightrope of environmental preservation and uninterrupted industrial growth.?

This is where the path of energy conservation gains such import. A 2021 BEE report on the Impact of Energy Efficiency Measures in India states that the adoption of energy efficiency programmes has led to the overall energy savings of 28.06 Mtoe for the year 2019-20. These programmes also enabled monetary savings of worth INR 115,702 crores and equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions of around 177.6 million Tonnes annually.?[4]This means that industries seek to gain a trifecta of benefits by adopting energy conversation measures – energy savings, monetary savings and meeting their carbon goals.

In fact, energy conservation measures yield long-term benefits for industries by lowering the energy requirements and the need for new electricity generation and transmission infrastructure, and by improving the competitiveness of the business. These measures, however, differ from sector to sector, and can be applied to the buildings, appliances, energy generation and equipment. Some or all of these measures, when implemented can lead to considerable benefits for the industries.?

With energy efficiency gaining significance, EESL is now one of the??pioneers to become the harbinger of change. Over the years, EESL has pioneered innovative business approaches for implementing energy efficiency programmes, which can eliminate the barriers of upfront payments and rapidly drive transformative impact.?Its business models are transparent, scalable, flexible, and can seamlessly embrace different and emerging technologies in a manner that incentivizes all stakeholders. The transparency and flexibility of the business model avoids the requirement of public funds as enablers and delivers outcome in a time-bound manner. By doing so, EESL is able to upscale initiatives to create a market for transformative, future-ready solutions.?

The time is ripe for energy efficiency to emerge as the pivot for achieving climate goals and reaching the net zero targets. EESL will be the key to usher in the imminent energy efficiency revolution.??
