Welcome to Leading Edge, Edition 3! ??
Guess what? Your favorite AI insider rag just hit a crazy milestone – almost (but not yet) 1000 subscribers in two weeks! Mind = blown. ?? THANK YOU for joining the ride and for all the awesome feedback.
So this week we will talk about why your security cam's about to get a PhD, Nvidia stock (isn't that what everyone talking about anyway?), The $7Tn question of custom chips and also some existential questions in the AI Age.
Buckle up, it's gonna be a blast! ??
Are You Ready for the Mind-Blowing Killer App for AI? ??
Forget text.
Imagine your security camera can now ANALYZE what it sees, not just record it.
?? Imagine a world where you could get?pro-level performance tips without hiring a coach for your kid's next soccer game.
?? Or me getting professional-coach quality feedback on my crappy tennis ???game just by recording and uploading a video.
?? Or picture a future where security cameras in casinos and public spaces could understand and interpret what they're seeing, enhancing safety and security.
Ethan Mollick just tested this.
He uploaded a 30-minute video to Gemini 1.5 Pro, and the results will blow your mind.?(Images in the post, his original LinkedIn post in comments) ??Gemini 1.5 can understand and analyze video content like never before. The multimodal capabilities of this AI system are astounding.
Think about the possibilities.
Imagine the stories your old home videos could tell if Gemini 1.5 could interpret them. Picture your favorite sports team uploading game footage and getting insights that could improve their performance. The implications for traffic safety alone are game-changing. No more relying on human interpretation of video footage from accidents.
Gemini 1.5 could provide a comprehensive, unbiased analysis that paints a crystal-clear picture of what happened.
This is just the beginning.
One killer app for AI is here. Can’t wait to get my hands on Gemini 1.5! ??
Two Stocks, Two Paths: The Tale of Nvidia and Cisco
Sometime back in 2008, the stock price of Cisco collapsed after an earnings announcement.
Primary reasons was a earnings estimate - by a few cents. My then boss in Cisco told me that it’s impossible for companies like Cisco - earning $40B+ in revenues, to grow at 20% all the time.
Apparently nobody told Jensen Huang that, so he had no idea ??.
In one of the most widely anticipated earnings reports of all time, Nvidia announced this week that they beat Wallstreet estimates by a huge margin. To put that in perspective, their quarterly earnings was higher than their entire revenues from 2021!
But how is the future looking like for Nvidia?
Remember Cisco's tumble?
There's a striking similarity with Nvidia.
An FT article maps the stocks, higlights both are hardware behemoths, and both face the inevitable threat of commoditization.
So, we're left wondering: Can Nvidia maintain its reign in the hardware kingdom? ??
The tech landscape is shifting. OpenAI's CEO seeks a staggering $7 trillion for chip development. Groq introduces LPUs, pioneering in language processing. And AMD, though languishing, is inching closer to the AI pie.
Keep watching, for the story of Nvidia and Cisco is far from over.

Why Sam wants that $7Tn…
Speaking of Groq...
That’s me querying the Mixtral 8x7B 32K context in Groq.
It’s lightning fast. 480 Tokens/seconds fast. A query response under 3 seconds. But don't believe me, check it out here.
Why is it so fast?
Groq runs on custom hardware. They call it an LPU - Language Processing Unit (because, why not? ??).?Something made specifically for LLM inference. They claim 18x speeds compared to their nearest competitor.
And now everyone can really appreciate why Sam wants that $7Tn. Think of a custom chip, highly efficient and optimized for LLM inference.Plus, you don’t pay the Nvidia Tax!
Careers Disrupted, Careers Created…
"When one door closes, another opens," they say.
But we often fixate on the closed door, lamenting what's lost, failing to see the boundless opportunities through the open one. That's where we find ourselves today.
AI has burst onto the scene, forcing us out of our comfort zones. It's natural to feel unsettled, even scared.
But what if, instead of clinging to the room's familiarity, we embrace the adventure beyond the door?
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, put it this way at the World Government Summit.
He said “You will be able to use tools use these tools to do things that people in the generation before you could not even imagine.”
His words echo a powerful truth: The AI age isn't about loss; it's about transformation.
So, stop whining. Stop pining for days gone by.
Instead, seek what works in this new era.
Adapt. Evolve.?
Seize the chance to redefine your career, your life, your world.
Imagine the possibilities:
?? A radiologist partners with AI to detect cancers earlier, saving lives.
?? A teacher co-creates immersive lesson plans with AI, captivating students like never before, transforming how they learn.
?? A musician collaborates with AI, to understand?rhythm, emotion, and the science of sound to elevate music to something that’s not just heard, but felt.
The doors are open.
Until next week...
And that's a wrap for this week's edition of The Leading Edge! ??
This newsletter is way more fun with all of you onboard! Huge thanks for reading. Did something jump out at you? Share your thoughts in the comments – I love hearing your perspectives. And of course, likes, shares, and follows are always appreciated.
