Leading In Crisis
Friday March 13, 2020 was the day that I packed up my work office and moved home. Little did I know that this would be the start of longest and busiest days of my career. My two-week vacation in April was cancelled. Zoom video meetings, Skype calls and numerous phone calls have become the new norm.
I am thankful that we were ready to pivot to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in the City of Brampton. Our meal program became a take out service. The Regeneration Thrift Store was closed and "reopened" as an emergency food bank. We extended our hours to allow extended opportunities for showers and laundry. We opened a drop in centre in another location with strict physical distancing guidelines. We have hired nurses to help with the recovery of homeless individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19.
I am extremely thankful for our entire staff as they redeployed to meet these needs. We have been intentional in staying lined up with our stated purpose that says we "a caring community that continually strives to provide dignity for those in need, as an expression of Christian love in action."
During these "unprecedented" times it is absolutely important to remember why we exist and to serve with absolute integrity.
Craig Groeschel stated in a recent podcast, "as leaders, we don’t motivate through a crisis, we lead through a crisis. This is not a time for motivation, this is a time for wise decisions, and leading through the crisis. Be realistic and truthful."
STAY CALM AND SERVE!
