Hi amazing women leaders,
Are you someone who seeks the approval of others? Do you need external validation before you feel that who you are and what you do is enough?
As we continue our journey as women leaders, it's essential to address a common challenge that many of us face—the perceived need for external validation. Society often conditions us to seek approval from others, leading us to question our worth and accomplishments. In this newsletter, we'll explore where this need stems from and, more importantly, how we can cultivate our own inner cheerleaders.
The Origins of External Validation
From a young age, societal norms and expectations shape our beliefs about success and self-worth. The need for external validation in children also often develops as a natural part of their social and emotional development. We're taught to seek approval from our family, peers, mentors, and even strangers. The desire for external validation can stem from a variety of sources, including societal pressures, cultural expectations, and personal experiences.
How can we break free from this?
Breaking Free from the Myth
1. Reflect on Your Values: Take a moment to reflect on your core values and what truly matters to you. By aligning your actions with your values, you'll find a more authentic and fulfilling path. When you live according to your values, the need for external validation diminishes.
2. Celebrate Your Achievements: Make a conscious effort to celebrate your victories, big and small. Acknowledge your hard work and accomplishments, recognising that your worth is not contingent on the opinions of others. Keep a success journal to track your achievements and revisit them when self-doubt creeps in.
3. Surround Yourself with Positivity: Build a support system that uplifts and encourages you. Surround yourself with people who celebrate your successes and provide constructive feedback. A positive environment can strengthen your self-confidence and reduce the dependence on external validation.
It's also important that we learn how to validate ourselves, to become our own inner cheerleaders. Because when we do that, we stop needing anyone else's approval but our own.

Cultivating Your Inner Cheerleader
1. Practice Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer a friend. Embrace the imperfections and setbacks as opportunities for growth. Remember that self-compassion is the foundation of a strong and resilient mindset.
2. Set Realistic Standards: Challenge unrealistic expectations and standards that you may have set for yourself. Perfection is an unattainable goal, and embracing your authentic self, flaws and all, is a powerful step toward self-acceptance.
3. Mindfulness and Meditation: Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine. Meditation can help you stay present, reduce anxiety, and foster a deeper connection with your inner self. It's a powerful tool for building self-awareness and inner strength.
Remember, your worth is inherent, and your journey is unique. Let's embrace our power and become our own greatest advocates.
