From “KUKA Onboarding Trailer,†by Roz Hussin (https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/stefan-schmid-b5924a2_training-leadershipdevelopment-activity-6859928456705130496-USwc). Copyright [2021] by Hussin, R. Reprinted with permission.
The other day I received a link to a post by Stefan Schmid, Head of Development at HR KUKA Group. The post contained an onboarding trailer for a leadership development programme that was being rolled out in the organisation.
The video caught my attention and I was riveted. Normally, I would fast forward, and skip some parts - but this was different.?
The trailer makes a compelling argument on the need for new leadership skills in the aftermath of the pandemic. It stirs emotions, creates dissonance and offers a solution that will relieve the pain.
The "GRIT AND GRACE Leadership Development Program" is designed to equip leaders with critical skills to “future proof †them. The programme was developed by instructional architect and metacognitive coach, Roz Hussin.
By watching this video, I gathered many nuggets i) the structure of an effective programme onboarding trailer ii) the elements that make effective instructional design
Participants of this programme can expect to achieve the following ROI.?
?? Develop the mindset to lead in the VUCA world of constant change, exploring new terrains, battling the unknowns, and gaining new insights
?? Develop leadership skills for the brave new world as expressed in the acronym GRIT? AND GRACE?.?
GRIT?: Global, Relations, Intercultural, Team, ? ? AND
GRACE?: Growth, Resilience, Adaptation, Collaboration, Empowerment.

Being a facilitator and course designer myself, these were my takeaways:
The well-crafted trailer engages the viewer and appeals to participants' core drive for development and accomplishment. The programme has incorporated the following elements in its design.
??Using a? context - problem-solution format, the trailer provides the following information without revealing too much:
- Course structure,?
- Course flow,?
- Methodology used,?
- Engagement expected
- ?Skills to be acquired.
?? The clever use of? mnemonic acronyms to facilitate retention of information?
?? The use of a reward mechanism in the form of a mug, a symbol of honour, to recognise the achievement
?? By having the acronym on the mug, it reinforces the meaning and mission for succeeding in VUCA world
I read a comment about the programme, by Wade Leslie, a participant from the pilot batch. He said, "It's not for the faint-hearted, but exactly what's required in today's VUCA world.â€
?As Albert Einstein said,? "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."
Watch this trailer now and see if you remain the same

3 å¹´Susan Verghese Thank you for the accolade. I am honored. But I would like to make a suggestion -- It would be prudent to ping the person who authored the original post which inspired you to write this article. Although I am the instructional designer for the GRIT AND GRACE program, I am not the originator of the original LinkedIN post.

3 å¹´Bravo ?? Roz Hussin love the video.

3 å¹´Interesting read, Susan. I like the video idea, though I won't comment on the topic. Probably can repurpose the article in a post instead, since they said, Article is looooong dead already.??
