Welcome to Love Mondays More the weekly LinkedIn newsletter that delves deeper into the ideas and concepts driving my Love Mondays email newsletter series.
Why ‘Love Mondays’? Mondays are often the low part of the week, earning the title of “worst day of the week” by the Guinness World Records. So I aim to provide a 4-minute caffeine hit of content to fire up the other 10,076 minutes of your week and stave off the Monday malaise. Don’t just live Mondays, love Mondays!
It’s hard to avoid the buzz and talk around AI at the moment. Everyone seems to be pondering the same questions: What's in store for the future of work? What (or who) will be disrupted by AI? Or perhaps, more accurately, will anyone not be??
It can be a bit unnerving, right??
It's a substantial topic to delve into, and unless you've got a crystal ball handy, predicting how things will unfold is a bit like trying to read tea leaves.
But instead of dwelling on the uncertainties that can fuel anxiety, let's shift our focus. The real questions we need to ask ourselves are: How do we shape a future where AI isn't a looming threat but a willing collaborator, partnering with us to amplify our human capabilities??
And, what practical steps can we take right now to gear up for this transformative shift, concentrating on the aspects we can actually control? It's a journey of crafting possibilities in the midst of uncertainty.
AI as Complementary Intelligence
Leadership experts from Potential Project recently surveyed 600 employees across diverse industries to understand their views on artificial intelligence and leadership. The findings, showcased in a recent Harvard Business Review article, echoed a growing comfort with AI, particularly in areas such as strategic planning and decision-making.?
However, despite AI's technical capabilities, employees consistently voiced a preference for leaders with essential human qualities, with notable levels of distrust and discomfort regarding AI's understanding of human behaviour and emotions. The authors also highlighted three crucial human attributes for leaders to cultivate: awareness, compassion, and wisdom.?
A recent report by Amrop titled 'Wise Leadership and AI' delves deeper, portraying an AI-savvy leader as someone who possesses a combination of these traits:
This research is as close to a crystal ball as we can get, offering glimpses of a future marked by a collaborative partnership with AI. The key takeaway is that…

“..the best leaders will embrace the technology and master the core qualities of human leadership.” - Potential Project ‘The AI-Enabled Human Leader’
At the beginning of the year I had the privilege of conversing with a luminary in the AI space, author of ‘Scary Smart’, and former Chief Business Officer of Google X, Mo Gawdat. He shared some valuable insights and advice for navigating the age of AI:
1. AI is not coming for your job, but the person who uses AI might because, as Mo says,? “they will be able to do the job so much better.”
According to a recent McKinsey study, nearly a quarter of executives say they’re using AI tools to do their own work. Have you ventured into the realm of AI? If not, it might be time to explore its potential.?
2. We all need to contemplate what our area of expertise is and how we can use AI to complement our skill set.
What’s your area of intelligence or expertise and how can you add AI to amplify it? If you're unsure where to begin, Mo ironically suggests seeking advice from ChatGPT, Bard or Gemini on how you could enhance your work.
On the flip side of this, what are the human areas that you might need some work on to amplify those skills? Whether it's self-awareness, empathy, or collaboration, intentional growth in these areas complements the symbiotic relationship with AI.
P.S. As AI becomes a permanent fixture, research underscores the increasing need for human leadership. If you're interested in mastering the art of blending human qualities with technology in your organisation, my new keynote or workshop topic, "Humanising Leadership in a Tech-enhanced World,” could be a perfect fit. Let’s navigate the future of leadership together!

1 年Love this one Holly Ransom. AI for collaborative partnership win ??. It’s a great guide I’ve used it for everything and anything including my Everest nails ?? ??… love me so some ChatGPT 4 life vibes but Google Bard has been amazing too… actually it’s kind of a little like you from my observation: brilliant insights shared cleverly but what separates it slightly from ChatGPT is that it leans to recommendations connected to actions which is always a double win. Thanks sharing these amazing write ups always ??

1 年‘ Complimentary Intelligence’ is a fantastic description, I also see it as an enhanced productivity tool, yes it is very early (well for many of us) but it is a tool that can be harnessed for good ????

1 年Thanks for the caffeine hit Holly. Just like the week ahead, I think AI is filled with potential and inevitably some challenges along the way. In reading your article I see a continuation of the trend towards 'being more human', more emotionally intelligent and the complimentary question is then how can technology facilitate that? We need to be designing in the right ways and for the right ends. The antithesis of this is our social media monster, which has grown to be so problematic. How can we incentivise AI development for the benefit of human and society instead of greed and corporate profit?
