"LEADERSHIT OR LEADERSHIP ?"
I am sure that you have heard the term "Leadership" over time and may not have heard of the term "Leadershit" . It is simply means leaders misleading the Leadership role :-)
The Leadershit problem indeed exists and is eminent in many organizations, institutions and political parties.
Lets look on some examples of Leadershit Vs. Leadership:
1. Vision
Leadership : Has a clear direction on where to go, how to go and road map to reach the intended destination.
Leadershit : Leaders who thinks having the vision with strong drive and passion but unable to inspire teams, motivate performance, or create sustainable value. Intends to practice the "Look Good" approach to impress the Top, keeps pushing to get deliverable within timeline which may be unrealistic and not at the optimal quality. May be forgetful and what is being said at a time , high ego to admit and yet keep changing on the the thought of the moment.
2. Integrity
Leadership : The leaders that walk the talk, work within corridor code of conduct, they are motivated to serve the interests of the people and organization, not their personal interests.
Leadershit : The person walks in own interest. Compromise integrity for own interest. Plans and devices stories to impress others and rehearse with team members to pitch the intended stories.
3. Performance
Leadership : Great leaders always show a strong Winning Attitude, Even in tough times, they will find a way, they understand they can’t always win the battle but they make sure winning the entire war. They look at talents realistically on their strengths and weaknesses. Celebrate success and and be a pillar of support on down days.
Leadershit : Celebrate success only. Devices plan to kill and remove team members are not aligned to their plans or may have down time. Not a coach of developing performance. Short cut fix mentality. Crony mindset working well with selected Team Members.
4. Learning Culture
Leadership : Good leaders are fully aware of things they know and things they don’t know. They have no need to be the smartest person in the room, but have the unyielding desire to learn from others.
Leadershit : Thinks of self greatly being highly ego centric thinking been there done that. Type of leaders that has no interest to try new things, to learn the new skills and step in to new innovation. Does not want to listen to opinion of others thinking that they know the answer already.
5. Communication Skill
Leadership : Great leaders can communicate effectively across mediums, constituencies, and environments. They are active listeners, fluid thinkers, and know when to dial it up, down, or off.
Leadershit : Use communication at their convenience and advantage. Communicate to selected individuals selected information. Manipulative on the communication mode. For instance, ineffective leaders are being followed up through e-mails would indicate face to face communication as preference to protect themselves.
6. Ego Control and Accountability
Leadership : Real leaders are accountable. They don’t blame others, don’t claim credit for the success of their team, but always accept responsibility for failures that occur on their watch.
Leadershit : When you did good, they take the credit. When you did bad, all the fingers go pointing at you. Next thing in mind is to maliciously manage the employee out.
7. Empathy
Leadership : While love and leadership are certainly two words you don’t often hear in the same sentence, I can assure you that strong leaders do showand share Empathy, humility and kindness.
Leadershit : Empathy takes time, focus, effort. Some leaders focus more on meeting deadlines versus understanding the side kick additional tasks that comes along. Empathy can be superficial.
8. Cooperation
Leadership : Works on cross cooperation across the board. Puts self ego aside and works towards harnessing collaboration.
Leadershit : Power play with self ego“My way or the highway”.
9. Focus
Leadership : Focused on the ultimate goal and objective than getting personal or emotional.
Leadershit : Gets derailed on gossips and can turn emotional instead of staying focused.
10. Comfort Zone
Leadership : The best leaders won’t wait until future competitors come and beat him down but he understand how to pull the future forward. They are focused on leading change and innovation to keep their organizations fresh, dynamic and growing.
Leadershit : Are so used to the brand practices or past experiences they have worked and ultimately not open to adjust to diversity or different norms of different geographic region.
11. Customer Oriented
Leadership : Successful leaders focus on the consumer experience, which in turn leads to satisfaction and loyalty. They find ways to consistently engage the consumer and incorporate them into their future innovation and planning initiatives.
Leadershit : Superficially customer oriented and wants to provide what one thinks is the customer needs versus the real customer needs.
12. Courage
Leadership : Good leaders will show real courage to break from the norm, challenge the status quo, seek new opportunities, cut your losses, make the tough decision, listen rather than speak, admit your faults, forgive the faults of others, not allow failure to dampen your spirit, stand for those not capable of standing for themselves, and to remain true to your core values.
Leadershit : Type of leaders who won’t take decision based on all the facts that have been presented or type of leaders that will just take decision based on own comfort level or mindset.
