LEADERSHIP WAR!
Everyday when we wake up and open the news or a n article in social media, all speaks about leader, leadership, how to become a leader, why aren’t you a leader, difference between leader and manager and etc.
In fact, what is the reason behind this huge wave of notifications and announcements and information?
Why I am writing this because I see a big challenge in each individual and many groups in social or media that they all believe themselves as a leader without taking into account the reality of life an unbalance situation of each subject, topic, task and daily issue at scale.
If we believe that, nobody has this skill to claim s/he has all the knowledge about anything, then insisting to be leader in everything has no meaning.
This covers all simple and detail activities starting from our personal life to professional and social. We live with our different characteristic by changing it rapidly in different situation. Imagine that we wake up early and until going out, there is a time slot of our life. Secondly, when we go out for work, by walk or on drive, there is another time slot with different style, then we enter to a space that we used to work on it and according to my experience, it is very different from what we experiencing before or after. During work, we have many interactions in-person or online conferences with different cultures and organizations, and after finishing our job, again we came back into the street, maybe dinner in restaurant or café with family and friends and finally back to home.
Here is the general treatment (one day shot) as a loop that shows our separated roles in different scenarios and situations.
The conflict happens where we cannot manage the borders and somehow we are lost between our roles and responsibilities. Somewhere as family member, somewhere as citizen, another place as client or staff with dedicated position, and when I look by distance, I feel like a theater artist who is or should every time changing the acts. In same there is a huge wave of information to push all to become a leader!
This looks creating an internal (Individual) and external (Social – Group) ?challenge which I call it “Leadership War” and consciously promoted by many companies without considering the impacts and side effects in real life and business. This fake tournament tries to build a competition that at the end will not be in favor of everybody. If everybody consider him/herself as leader to show her/his strengths and power, then who is going to do the real job?!
To avoid misunderstanding, I’m not against the trend of improvement and transformation from management role to leadership which has the clear logic based on social and environmental changes during decades, but I have problem with commercialization of this term at large scale. This leads everybody to focus on Leadership without enabling her/him to create the link with reality happening in social life and future trends.
The main concern is at which level we can touch this formulation and logic inside our characteristics that have been shaped several years ago even by legacy of previous generations.
The sensitive point is the edge of our mindfulness and awareness about our current state. If we do not have access to this information, any change on role will have heavy consequences without turning back. Imagine an empty glass of water and when you start to fulfil it without taking to consideration the capacity. Or holding a full glass of water in front of yourself in hand for 1-hour non-stop. Or start running fast from top on the hill to down without thinking about the ups/downs, stones and rocks, holes and trees and so on and you are increasing your speed with no control.
Or you seat to rest after a heavy loaded day in order to be calm and reduce the pressure but you are in the trap of overthinking and solving pending issues that was resulted by distraction, interruptions, conflicts, biases and etc.
What I’m going to propose is to change the external War to internal Peace first and forget what is happening out there. Let ourselves raise the white flag first bravely and keep a bit distance from the field. This short pause works like a shock on current paradigm in our living state then gradually by notifying below terms, we see the world with another point of view;

If you ask me; then for what? Or why? I intend to tell you we have forgotten our main role in this life since many years and our mission is not only to maintain only ourselves but we are a tiny part of a extraordinary discipline with other members and actors who are in link together and need each other;

In this road map, acting like a lotus, step by step we grow up from deep to the light and automatically a new characteristic appears that can take the lead not as an expert to formulate, or not as manager to control everything, but as a superior & visionary man who lives simply and differently.
